Just interested in what people do for a living and if it is not their ideal job what would you like to do :)
I am an IT Consultant but would really have loved to have been a Mounted Police Woman but my eye sight was too bad even though I wear contacts

So come on spill the beans :D

I work part-time........sort of for the Government, but it's top secret ;) If I told you I would have to kill you :) Most of the time I enjoy it. Probably would not do anything else if I didn't.

I'm a psychologist who works as an interior designer and would love to be an anthropologyst .......
I'm a skills tutor at a college. Teach basic maths and english to 16-25 y/o.
Would rather be working on a stud with horses. which i swhat i did before the children. When i was younger i always used to think, "why do people with horse have children?" as i used to ride for all the people that were too bust due to children.
and i fell into the same trap myself, yet i still think, why do horse people have children
:D

I'm a Housing Officer. Well, I'm
kind of a Housing Officer as the client group I work with don't traditionally live in houses
A bit like Ory, I have a Psychology degree but realised too late that I should have done Anthropology instead. Don't know how I ended up in the job I'm in now, it certainly wasn't a conscious decision but I do like it most days...I like working with people and the client group are great to work with, if
challenging at times :D

I'm the accountant (well, I AM the whole accounts dept :D ) for a small company making domestic wall/ceiling/bathroom lights for companies such as JLP, Habitat, Heals .
I would love to be a researcher in a county records department :)

I'm a part-time vet receptionist/ surgery assistant (which at the moment is marginally preferable to having root canal treatment) but I'd prefer to be a proof-reader or archivist. :)

I'm having trouble getting to grips with DOS again. It's improving slightly, though - the tranx seem to be working! ;) Tomorrow should be interesting - there's a cat castration to be done, and that's done under local anaesthetic!

I'm guessing I'll get to hold the end with teeth
and claws!

Why are you having to use DOS

Are they not in the 21st century

Oooh cats knackers :D :D

I can't think of anything nicer to do, than what I do now.
I am the admissions co-ordinator at a special needs post 16 college. I love the environment, I love the people and I even sometimes like the work! My only frustration is that it took me until I was 38 before I knew what my vocation was.

I'm a medical secretary! Job's OK, but I don't know, it's just not me, although I've been doing it for about 14 years now :d
Don't laugh but I would love to go into acting. Definitely not for the fame side of things, just that in many ways I'm quite shy but when I was younger did a lot of acting and singing and my shyness just disappeared and I loved the buzz it gave me. Seriously thinking about doing something about it though of course for fun :d

I used to be an aircraft engineer (

:D)for the Navy, that is until the children came along and at the time women, children and the navy didn't really go :( so became a FT mum for 7 years. I then got a job 7 months ago, 15 hrs pw in a well known high street catalogue shop (the one with the "big" book ;)) being the friendly face of jewellery and the refunds counter. Its not a job I can jump up and down in excitment for but it pays some bills.
I have been doing Open university courses recently in Health and Social Care and I would love to return to the Navy but as a Nursing Officer. Unfortunately as OH is in the forces himself, I can't do this unless he leaves!

Remember that working less than 16 hours a week doesn't qualify you for a full pension when the time comes ...
By kerrib
Date 15.05.06 17:34 UTC

Oh, never thought of that. I did have home protection for the past 7 years but never gave it much thought when I went to work. Unfortunately didn't have much choice in going to work (much prefer being a domestic goddess

:D :D). They only offer a 15 hour week contract so I do 3 hrs every evening Mon-Fri when OH gets home. I can't afford to work during the day as childcare costs too much and I is have another 2 years before my youngest starts school. I am hoping to give up the work soon though when my OH's case is heard and they admit they made a mistake !! :D :D

Domestic goddessing is way more fun than going out to work! :) :) My hours are very vague (three of us share 30 hours a week), and when they're less than 16 hours a week I have to go into town and sign on to get the credit. It's a real pain in the whatsit.

At least because you're getting child benefit you get pension credits too, so i don't think you need to worry. :)

IT admin. I monitor and maintain an internal system. Great job as I look clever to others, got the kettle, fridge and radio in my office, as I'm my own boss. As for the job, I could do it with my eyes closed, but Shhhhh!... don't tell
im stuck at home , living with SLE Lupus & my husbands unpaid secretary  my usual job was telesales ,or carer, inbetween bringing up 6 children , but my ideal job would be a psychiatric nurse :)

I am a teaching assistant in a special needs school. I work with 12 - 14 year olds. Love the job and the holidays aren't bad either!!!!!

I am in a situation where I have been working towards a career and now don't know if it is what i want to do. I love museums, have been inspired by them since I was 10, and have always wanted to work in one, but the jobs are few and far between and there is too much competition for what is available, and I am now wondering whether I wouldn't have been better off working towards a career in care, either as a psychologist or working with vunerable young people. My partners mum is a psychologist and she works with young people in a hostel and she is very inspirational to me, and I can't help but think a job that helps others to build a life and show them how much they are worth would be much more rewarding that scrabbling up a career ladder in a career that has ended up selling out so much to business as opposed to being about education and the community.
I'm an A-Level student, but only just!
I am kind of an artist but I don't think I could ever make a living that way.
I'm hoping to go and study animal management, then after that who knows.
I really need to find a part-time job now. But I don't think I can with my social anxiety as bad as it is!

ps how is that ickle puppy :D

I was a stay at home mum from 1975 until 2004 ...due to me having spread my 5 children out well :D (apart from blips where I did some part time work of course)
Now I work in a girls Grammar School, usually as a cover supervisor but at the moment I am the Reprographics Officer until a permanent one can be found (probably the end of June) :)
Ideally - well, I wanted to be a librarian when I was 15 ...owning a book shop or stationary shop would be blissful for me :)
IM AN ART STUDENT! wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
I am a neo-natal surgical ICU nurse, so work with prem babies who are ante-natally diagnosed (well, most of them anyway),with conditions that require surgery at birth..
Very interesting, very stressful and sometimes heartbreaking......... wouldn't change it though..... even if I am off at present.........
Other than what I already do, I would have loved to be a police dog handler.........
Gabrielle
I have been a stay-at-home mum for the past few years (as that was THE JOB I always wanted), as well as doing part-time jobs some of the time.
I have a Psychology degree and would LOVE to be a Psychologist (Clinical or Counselling), but it is sooo competitive and would cost me BIG time to do the further study required now. I am seriously considering going into teaching now.

I can imagine how heart breaking it could be :(
Just think though I could be on my horse and you could be standing beside me with your dog :D

i'm an account manager (working in a call centre). Ideally i'd love to run a small kennel and cattery in the middle of nowhere, with loads of land, a hydro pool for the pooches, and a self built house.

I'm a full time mum to my son, part time sectretary for my OH and also an artist. I'd love to be a full-time artist but time and room don't allow it :( my Ideal would be to move to a larger house with room for a small studio and paint as much as I want (need servants for that tho  ) but as youngun gets older I should be able to devote more tiime to painting - sigh!
Retired ex police officer here...and enjoying every minute..

I'm a special needs teacher working with children who have severe and profound learning disabilities - - it's interesting and rewarding work but the paper work is killing me :( - I'm giving it another 5 years then taking early retirement ( I'll be 55) - I then hope to work more with Pets as Therapy and also work part time as an educational officer for an animal charity.
Yvonne
I'm in Local Government  For the last 9 years I've arranged, attended and minuted hundreds of council meetings. It's a really boring job and there's been many times when I've come close to losing the will to live !
If I could have my time again I would love to be a forensic scientist.

I am a qualifed mortgage consultant, but been doing it for years now and have little to no interest.Alongside that I have always worked with people with head injury/brain damage. And recently worked as an advocate for people with learning/physical disabilites which I absolutely loved.
I need to get a permanent part-time job but just do not know what to do,as I have had enough of work!
Ideally win the lottery and stay at home and foster/rescue animals.Plant a 10ft high hedge and ignore everybody!
I think forensics would have my vote too.

Ponk..me too I'm also a qualified mortgage advisor only been doing it for 2 1/2 years & whilst the money & hours are good (I basically choose if I wanna go into the office & when) I am quickly loosing interest in the profession, currently studying for Advanced CeMap to make it a bit more interesting but am struggling especially as we now have Molly I wanna spend all my time with her

Me & the OH had the age old conversation on hols a few years ago about what we wanted to do in life etc & we came up with a great plan

....move into the Peak District (preferably Dovedale I love it there!), buy a tea room which I can run (did lots of catering/waitressing jobs when I was younger!!!!!) which will showcase Rich's photographs (he desperately wants to be a freelance photographer) so when they are enjoying their Bakewell tarts & coffee they will notice the stunning pictires on the walls & buy them....perfect!! Failing that buy a big farm house with lots & lots of labradors (poss breed?) & covert all the barns into holiday lets & get rich!!! Saying all that we're only 25 now so think we're talking another 25 years to go before we can do any of this.....maybe I'll just retire to the Algarve.......

What are everyone else's plans???
By sam
Date 16.05.06 09:03 UTC

i am a photographer, i work at home in a purpose built office with all my hounds around me....what could be more perfect?

I can pick my own hours, spend as much time at home with the hounds as i choose, plus I get paid to attend dog shows/horse shows/agricultural shows/gundog trials/hunt meets/shoot days/falconry events..... and rock concerts.....it doesnt get much better
Currently 'between jobs' after leaving my last office job in preparation for opening our animal supplies shop.
Decided to become our own boss after deciding that 6 weeks a year in Australia wasn't enough, and we want to live there full time. Planning to work hard, earn lots, and emigrate as soon as poss to take full advantage of lots of warm weather out there and do lots of rock climbing!

I'm a Project co-ordinator / analyst - what an totally non-descript job title!!!
I work in the automotive industry in standards auditing and market analysis / marketing. It's a bit of a 'dry' subject to work with, but the people are great, the company treats us well and the pay isn't too bad either. I studied art and still paint occasionally, also used to work in an eventing yard.
When I was growing up I wanted to work with horses, but now I would like to work in events management. Either that, or I would love to work in Police intelligence. I really should stick in my current industry/area, to put to use my economics degree when I finish it next year, but I think I quite fancy a change.

I work part-time as a College Facilitator and work as an Agency based Residential Worker for Children with Emotionally challenging behaviour, both very different and like both, if I could choose I'd have my own business of a B&B with lake in the garden for fishing in an idyllic part of the country with dogs allowed and fishing hols catered for!
I'm now a stay-at-home Mum, but was a Research and Competitive Intelligence Manager for a very well known software company ;-) I would love to have owned and run my own riding school... got as far as qualifying as an instructress and then was blind sided into the software world. How on earth did that happen?

I'm a cytogeneticist turned marketing manager. I don't find it very stimulating at all and have been trying to discover what I want to do when I grow up. I've been thinking about working with dogs in some way. Possibly open a doggy day care centre and expand it inot a full-service place; shop, groomers, etc. Or maybe go into grooming, or.... I just want someone to pay me lots of money for spending the day with my dog. Dogs plural soon I hope.
>cytogeneticist<
I had to look that up! (wow!)
I was an Aviation Security & Emergency Instructor but have taken the plunge to pastures new and Am now an Instructor for the Met. Police. (will have to sound you out Polly!! its a whole new world to me! eek!)
Ideally? Im wondering if Lori's got room in that Doggie Business for a partner?
(I'll be the Beauty to her Brains :D ;) :P)
Failing that cash in all my assets and go do the Iditarod :D
