Topic Dog Boards / Health / when will my bitch have her season
- By Betty Boop [gb] Date 11.05.06 22:56 UTC
hi i have a 18 month old bitch (newfy )who has never had a season yet is this normal all my other dogs have seasons with in their first year should i take her to the vets

All bitches are different although often those bred on the same lines tend to come into season at the same age and follow similar patterns.

I've known several bitches be two years plus before their first season and one of my own (obviously immature from day one) youngsters was 21 months before her first season.

Unless you have any other cause for concerns re. her wellbeing I'd not jump to the vets just yet :)  Have you spoken to her breeder and established what the pattern is for her bitch line and also what age her litter sisters (if she had any) have broken down?

HTH, regards Teri

My girl (leo) was 18 months before she had her first season :)
Like Teri says, unless you have any health concerns, I'm sure she'll 'mature' when she's ready :)

I was told that anything up to 2 years old (and even a few months over) is normal for a Newfie but my own came in at 10 months and 3 days old which is quite early for the breed. Unfortunatley, the dogs don't read the bokkks an they like to keep us on on our toes :)
