Topic Dog Boards / General / Ripe old age........
- By luvhandles Date 06.05.06 22:04 UTC
I know that this topic has probably been covered many a time but today, my friend and I were out walking our dogs when we met a lady who got quite emotional when she spotted my friends cocker spaniel Dusty. She explained that he looked very much like her old cocker who lived to the grand old age of 21! I was amazed by this and wondered if anyone here knew of any other real oldies?

That is definately the oldest Cocker I have heard.  Several years ago I met a chap walking his two terriers up Kinnoull Hill, a pretty steep hill on the edge of Perth, both aged 22! and they were not even related.  Just shows what good Scottish air and exercise can do :)

There must be good air in Perth Isabel as all my mums dogs have lived to the ages of 16-18 in Perth. I love going up Kinnoull Hill myself with the dogs.

There must be good air in Perth as all my mums dogs have lived between 16-18 years of age. I use to go up Kinnoull Hill a lot with the dogs, do you live in Perth then Isabel?

No, but I used to live North of Aberdeen and we regularly visited Hubbies family near Glasgow, before the roads were improved with the bypasses down the east coast, so were always ready to let the dogs out on Kinnoull Hill or on the Inches before moving on :)  There used to be a good curry house too to grab a bit of supper :)

If you mean the one beside the inch then I think it has changed to something else.

Wow that is a good age. My spaniel cross was pts at 17 years old, if it hadn't been for the cancer who knows how long he could have gone on for.  21 is a very good age indeed :)

No Scottish air around here....we were in Blackburn, Lancs today at Witton Park - a beautiful park I might add.

i know a very old terrier called rosie. She'll be 21 soon and is lovely cheery old soul who still loves her walks although nowadays her elderly owner takes an old-fashioned pushchair with her so that when rosie has had enough pottering around she jumps into her chariot and travels like home in a very stately manner. Her owner also has a much younger dog who wants to walk further than rosie can manage and this "walk and ride" arrangement suits everyone perfectly!

We've had 3 Pomeranian's live to 16!  One of the first Spanish imports lived until he was 15.  I have his daughter with me who is 13 this year so I'm hoping she'll carry on for quite some time yet.  She's still a fit old devil, so who knows :d
