An friend in the US has suggested a belly band may be useful for my dog who likes to mark in other's houses etc I think it is something you wrap around them encasing their underside so that the wee is absorbed by the band instead of someones floor!! Has anyone heard of them and know where I can buy them in the UK?

Hi June, If you want to PM or email me direct I can give you some idea.
bye
Gwen

I buy mine from the US from a rescue where all the proceeds go to the rescue -they're very nice and friendly to deal with and fast too.
http://www.pekeatzurescue.com/bellybands.htm I use them for my incontient cavalier and it's been the difference between bathing him 3 times a week and once a month.

I've heard of these things before and to be honest I'd rather go the way of finding why your dog feels he needs to mark his territory. It must be quite stressful for him to think he has to do this all the time.
To me it's a case of treating the symptoms and not the cause.

He's not under stress. He only marks when he goes into someones home where there are dogs, also the pet shop and the training classes. I have discussed this with my trainer - it is just territory marking and sometimes excitment weeing! It is difficult to train because it doesnt happen at home and is unpredicatable. I'm afraid there are not many willing souls out there who would agree to let my dog mark in their house for training purposes! The belly bands sound a good idea for when I need to take him into these situations. After a day when the excitment has worn off he may not need them.

Very typical behavior for small males. Every Chihuahua, Papillon breeder that I know uses them. If you have one or more males you can't control it, so it's a great idea. It looks like this:
It's got nothing to do with your dog being house trained. Mine is 100% house trained and never had an accident inside....... but when we come to someone else's house (if they have dogs) he will always lift his leg. And he thinks he's doing nothing wrong as he doesn't connect marking with going to the toilet. he thinks these 2 thing are completely separate, so you can't really do anything about it......

what an excellent idea, I had a Bichon as a kid and he would pee up anything that stood still long enough - indoors and out

It really is a little dog thing

Yep, both of my wee boys are house trained but little Pepe is an absolute sod at marking in my friends house and drives me wild as well as being anti-social and embarrassing!!! Maybe I will even try them meself!!! All the best, Dawn
