Hey everyone,

I have a few questions that i wonder if you could help me with. We have come up wita few ideas for affixes, is there a waythat i can check if they are taken without having to submit them? Also i am about to register norman with the ikc, how can i do it so my affix goes on, do i just register that affix with the kc and then add it on the registration form for the ikc? Also how long does it roughly take for the kennel club to publish it in the kennel gazette to see if there are any objections before its fully accepted? also let say you subit 6 and they are all ok will the kc accept them all and then you have to decide which one you want or will they just accept the first one in the list that they approve of? And one last thing lol, do you have to pay everytime you submit 6 affix suggestion even if none are accepted? Sorry there are so many questions!

you can buy a book full of affix's cost a tenner presume it makes it slightly easier .Available on the KC website.
We applied on the internet and then recieved a e'mail with all the reasons stating why I couldnt have the names I chose.
They ask for at least six but I sent of 56 altogether as mine were being returned it is the one fee for as many tries as you want .
I think its goes in order of how they are sent so make sure you put your first choice first etc.
I actually got my name accepted on the 7th march but couldnt use it until a few days ago they told me 6 wks but they usually recieve a complaint within the first 2 wks so there after you are usually pretty safe (told to me by kennel club) it is six weeks from the date printed in the gazette!!

Thanks starryeyes :) Does anyone have an affix book that they would mine just having a little check to see if the ones that we have though of have been used? or is that being a little bit too cheeky?! lol :D

I dont have one I'm afraid ...
they do return them pretty quickly by email !

Hi, if you pm me I can check for you as I have an affix book.. however the book is not up-to-date with all the new affixes even though I only bought it  last year!

They don't update their affix book regularly and check the spelling of your affix - if I had spelt the name I wanted with two extra characters (has to be at least 3 characters different in spelling than a similiar sounding affix) ie, I wanted Sweyn, was rejected as it was too similiar to Sweens, even though mine is pronounced sway... but I could have got if I had spelt it Swaaeyn or similiar.  By the time I found this out they had already allocated me another name on my list and then wanted to charge me to change it. I didn't bother in the end and stuck to the one they allocated.

the easiest way is to ring the KC and nicley ask the lady or gent on the phone if they can check if x or y words are already an affix.

There is no saying they won't be by the time you send them in, but at least it saves all the bother.

I did this when I was sending a pup to Austrailia where they don't allow names to be changed with the addition of owners affiox.

So I added it as part of pups name (as it didn't conflict with an affix here)  so she was registered "My affix dystans their affix"
