Hi

I have just been reading the code of ethics for a breed club. You have to sign before joining. Most of them made sense, breed to standard, so many litters from a bitch ect. But one was every dog must be either microchiped or tattooed.

Is this the same with most breed clubs and how practical is it. I can understand not breeding after a certain age and having so many litters but isnt identifing out dog a personal choice thing.

Neither of my two are tattooed or microchiped. But they both wear a collar and disc with their address and phone no on all the time.

Needless to say I wont be able to join the club,

I think that is unusual, none of the codes I have seen have every required this.  What breed is it?  Is is a new amendment?

I've not seen it either BUT I think it is a good idea. After all, apart from the obvious reasons, what good is for instance hip scores if you cannot prove it was the right dog that was scored?

My dog's disc has our address, landline and mobile numbers on but she has lost two discs.  Presumably the discs would have been lost on walks as I have never found them.  She was tattooed by the breeder and I recently had her microchipped as well.

I actually think it is a very good idea. As Goldmali said, it will help to prove that the hip score results actually get recorded against the correct dogs (I would like to hope that such deception doesn't occur but sadly I have a feeling it does :( )

In the UK?  The only "Jack Russell" recognised by the KC is the Parson Russell Terrier.  They don't seem to have a web site, perhaps someone is a member and will be able to tell us if this is now their requirement.
This is the "Jack Russell Club" code doesn't mention either.  An interesting code though, seems to be entirely about working rather than breeding ethics or welfare :)

Could still have a breed club even if not eligible for reg with KC?
- By Isabel Date 07.05.06 12:18 UTC
Yes I realised that :) so edited in the Jack Russell club code above.

Mmmmm, others will know more I am sure but I didn't think the UK Jack Russell breeders were particularly desiring KC recognition :)

Sorry could not find them on Google.  Perhaps because the KC lists them as the Parson Jack Russel Terrier Club so that is what I pasted in :)  Anyhoo, can't find a link to your code, is it on the site somewhere?

Hi

Just to avoid any confusion,it isnt the parson I am talking about. I posted the link above to the russell group I meant.
