Topic Dog Boards / General / reseaching pedigree of labrador
- By Lauren [in] Date 02.05.06 13:17 UTC
Hi,

Is there anyway I can look into the background of my labrador pup? I have a 5 generation pedigree and as my pup is from parents of black and yellow labs would like to find out more. Does anyone know if there is a website that would be able to give me details of colour, hips scores and champions in pedigree.
Not looking tobreed or anything just curious (obviously have too much time on my hands!!!).

Any advice would be great, thanks, Lauren.

I'm sure that there's a labrador pedigree database ... someone will come along and help soon.  In the meantime, if you post the names of the dam and sire, maybe you'll be pointed in the right direction.
But beware, researching pedigrees can be addictive! :D

Another way is to google the names that you do know then they sometimes pull up the pedigree. As my dogs descend back to a couple of kennels in New Zealand and they both have great websites. Was able to pull up alot in a short while.

These are 2 sites that I found when researching my dogs pedigree, not sure if you'll get hip scores from these sites though,

Hope these help,

No, sadly no hip scores. We are so behind in that we don't, in the Uk have a definitive website detailing any health tests, only the excel lists the KC sell ;-(

I'd be happy to look at the pedigree to the original poster and see whats what as far as one can tell. wylanbriarlabs@aol.com.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies, sorry for the delay in replying but have been unable to get online. I have looked at the sites mentioned and have bought up all the sires fathers (my dogs grandfathers) details and been able to trace that back quite far back. unfortunately cannot get anything on the dam 'Leemargays Collette'. the dam and sire are both owned by the breeder so maybe that is why there is no mention of either of those two. lauren

Even the affix alone doesn't bring anything up, does it? :(
- By Lauren [gb] Date 04.05.06 22:24 UTC
do you know what else i could put in to try to get something back?
- By Val [gb] Date 04.05.06 22:27 UTC
Not really.  I would expect the affix to bring up some names.  It's not my breed, I'm afraid.  Maybe someone from within would know.

Not an affix immediately recognisable...however, it may be a 1st time breeder and has just had her affix accepted...The best place to start looking would be the breeder herself, she should be able to trace her own girls ancestry, therefore be able to pass it along to you.

Thanks will try there.

i have to say it is wonderfully addictive researching labs pedigrees ...... managed to go back to late 1800s with mine and to discover a dual ch in amongst was brilliant .... Staindrop Saighdear .... and what a beautiful dog he was ...... the only thing is i would have liked to find out more about him but can only seem to get german sites on a google search ... and unfortunately have no command of the german language ..... has anybody out there got an english site i can look on

waiting in anticipation

thanks christine ... had a quick look and one was easier to read for the pedigree search as it gave me 6 generations .... have been looking individually at each dog on my previous searches so this was much quicker and found another 2 du ch ....Titus of Whitmore and Banchory Bolo .... this is really exciting ....

Leemargays is not a field or show line of any note so sadly there won't be anything listed for it. I think you canfairly safely assume they were pet dogs but possibly the sire linesof the sire and dam of the bitch mentioned might well be of interest if you can even find those.

I have over 3000 names on my own pedigree database and can find nothing for you there, and you've already obviously used the internet ones listed.
You do run into dead ends occasionally, then sometimes in the research you strike gold when you suddenly get a dog who has the same parents and you canplay around some more, checking and double checking then adding it in.

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to look. Really stumped with the dam, I have found the sires father Cornlands Wellington but would really like to see some pictures - does anywhere normally post pictures, or is that really asking for too much??!!! I think the fact that i can't find mention of either Sire or Dam and they both belong to the same breeder is telling me that they are regarded as pets and they have chosen not to list them (presumably this is how the dogs get onto these lists in the first place by the owners / breeders listing them) excuse me if this isn't right as this is all very new to me. If an owner shows or works their dogs, then the results are usually posted on the internet somewhere, by breed clubs etc.  The fact that a search of the affix doesn't show any results of anything, then is might be assumed that they are just kept as pets and no dogs with that affix excel in anything.

Hi lauren, I know 'Wellie' (CH Cornlands Wellington) well indeed, and have done since he was a young pup. sadly Cornlands do not have website seen as the owner of 'cornlands' is well ino her 80's and not overly technology minded, however he is one of the nicest yellows you could ever want to meet.

Generally one doesn't submit ones own dogs onto these website pedigree programmes, knowing the owener of the French one well I spoke with her and what she does is watch the championship show results each year and input all those plus all those in the Crufts catalogue with their listed breeding. Also she regularly trawels the web for any gaps she has....

So its a case of watching as things develop each year rather than submitting ourselves ;-)

Generally one doesn't submit ones own dogs onto these website pedigree programmes,

Just to say, for the best known Golden Retriever one anyone can sign up and add their own dogs and I also know of a Cavalier one that works like that as well as several cat breed ones. Seems to be a good way to get as many as possible.

Hi,

Wow what a helpful bunch you are. It really is addictive, I have managed to find some photos on a google images search including one of 'Wellie' - nice to know hes a lovely dog Di, thanks for that. I will plough on and see how far I can go back.
Thank you all very much for your help.

I can take you back about 20 generations on Wellie if you like?

However... me saying that, you can find him in all the mentioned databases without me lifting a finger (massive grin).
