does anyone know what the rules of using frozen semen in the u.k. is? regarding the F.S. of a dog that has been exported  but his semen is in this country is there a time limit before it can be used?

Think it's got quite a long 'sell by' date - years and years.   There used to be a rule that to be used in this country the dog had to be dead 15 years or something - pretty ridiculous in my book!!

If the dog's now fully resident abroad I'd imagine it's okay to use the semen now. The best thing, though, is to ask the Kennel Club to be certain. :)

we have just had semen from one of our stallion hounds collected/frozen....they said it (dog semen) is one of the most resilient & lasts several hundred years:eek:

I called the KC today about an unrelated topic and then asked the (very helpful) lady if she knew much about AI.  She put me through to a gentleman who was again very helpful.  If the dog is abroad or deceased, I think getting permission is very straightforward.  I asked, what if the dog was alive but had been castrated for some reason, and he said that the committee would consider it.

Gil Averis in Leeds is a canine reproduction expert & does loads of AI's. Perhaps you could ring her surgery?

She stores semen as well as doing the actual AI.

Do you know of anyone a bit further south than that?  I live in Devon and would rather not have to travel quite so far if possible.
Thanks

I don't sorry. It is worth travelling for something as specialised as this though & she does have alot of clients from the South Coast.
