Where I live there's an old allotment/s (still being worked) about 20 yards away (if that) but now we've heard that the people have been told to quit and the land is to be used for 'luxury' housing (you know, the detached ones that go up in 5 minutes and are about 6ft apart with little or no garden  )  The allotment residents are very unhappy about this, as am I :(  Every morning I wake up to birdsong and throughout the day it can be heard and it's lovely,  once the trees are cut down the birds will leave and we won't hear the variety we have now :( :( :(

What with bird flu and land grabbers is there any hope for our children and grandchildren to hear birdsong in the future?

I'm so depressed about it I've found a CD of british birdsong on the web which I've ordered, but it won't be the same :( :( :(

I know - its depressing isn't it :( there are houses shooting up everywhere - with pictures of "happy couples" "relaxing" on white leather sofa's and fancy names like "Bracken Ridge" on boards promoting them. About as far from either Bracken, or Ridge as you can get

I'm so sorry :(  Is it all cut and dried or is there still a planning process going on that you could object to, maybe rake in other neighbours to do a join effort?  If they can't build they may decide there is no point evicting the allotmenteers.

Oh for the sound of dogs barking, kids screaming and cars revving their engines. Lovely walks in the evening, through toytown streets on ribbons of new tarmac, ahhhh......NOT!!

Still,...Just think, when they have quite finished building on floodplains and any green strip of land in the country they can find vacant, we can all move to France like sensible people and at the fraction of the price.

:D All that wine and cheese makes me wonder what I am still doing here now!

As a previous poster said, has it all been finalised in the planning department?   My brother lives in a nice area of his town where the houses are all quite large, on large plots and are about 70 - 80 years old.  There is a 'thing' at the moment in his town developers buying properties like these and demolishing these lovely old houses and building executive flats - sorry 'apartments' - on the land.  There was a planning application to demolish a house and build one of these apartment buildings near my brothers, but all the local community got together and managed to save the house.  No flats are to be built there now.

LOL Melodysk :)

I would in a flash but we have elderly relatives who rely on us and we can't uproot them now :(

I've searched online but as yet haven't found an outline planning application, but then I've only gone back to 2004 yet

the biggest problem is that one or two of the local councillors are likely to get it pushed thru before anyone can object ;)

I believe the allotment holders are trying to fight it tho, so if this is the case I'm right behind them.

In the meantime I can listen to
this  :D
