Sam has been sick on and off for most of the day. He's now only bringing up bile. I have done a search on here and the advise is to starve for 24 hrs but I'm worried that he's eaten something he shouldn't. He had an operation for a blockage when he was a puppy . The vet gave me peridale granules which I'm supposed to sprinkle on his food when I think he' eaten something that he shouldn't but I'm worried that he won't keep it down. What would anyone advise me to feed him, I was thinking of boiled rice or weetabix. I would be grateful for your input.

If he is well enough in himself then I would starve him for the 24 hours and then give him some cooked fish, or chicken and see if he can keep that down. Mind you, my dogs are eating a lot of grass just now and bringing that up, which is normal at this time of year. ;) If you are really worried phone your vet. They might be better seeing him.

He may be bringing up bile because he has an empty stomach I generally only starve if they have the runs which would indicate an upset tum to me.
I would give him a light meal eg:fish or chicken (if he can eat chicken ) with a little bit of rice to fill him up and then see how he goes.
Also if he is known to have tummy probs then I would ring the vet just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for your help he's just eaten a bit of chicken and rice sprinkled with peridale granules. I felt so bad as he was obviously hungry and when I fed his sister he didn't know what was going on. The symptons are not the same as when he had a blockage but I shall watch him carefully. He's kept it down so far, so fingers crossed.

Hi
Just thought I'd let you know that Sam seems fine this morning, he kept his food down last night and he's had three weetabix for breakfast which he really enjoyed.

glad he 's is feeling better today.....why the weetabix ??
I would just stick to the chicken/fish and rice then slowly return back to his normal dog food.
