I have recently adopted an ex Racing Greyhound and have tried to register him with the KC in order to show him in racing and coursing classes , Have just been told that I need an official pedigree to complete registration status . Does anyone know where I can get one from as I tried printing one from greyhound data , and the KC said that this was not acceptable

Can Anyone help ? I really want to show the dog and If I can not get this pedigree I will never be able to do this

Thanks

I would think that your dog is not KC registered, may be on the working register so unfortunately I doubt that you will be able to get this.

There are people on here who will be able to advise you more on this matter than me though!

Have you tried contacting the NGRC ? If your dog is registered with them & you have the right registration paperwork you can register an racing greyhound on the full breed register @ the Kennel Club

The dog is not registered with the KC at all yet

Have contacted the NGRC who have sent me a copy of the dogs pedigree from the board na gCon website but the KC have said this is still not good enough to be able to show in Special Racing and coursing , only agility ,

We are using a form 9 for registration of a Border Collie ( Apparently this is correct) Agility is a form 5

Have you spoken to anyone at the KC yet to see exactly what they want ? I had the same problem(well nearly)with my BC as he is ISDS only bred. The KC insisted I needed an ISDS certified pedigree when in fact there are people who have the ISDS data base under licence & who could supply me with the required information. I've got a contact name who may be able to help if you want to PM me

The racing and coursing classes at shows are generally for show dogs - show bred dogs that also race for a hobby. I've never actually seen an ex-racer in them. Unfortunately greyhounds seem to be two distinct types, show and racing. Of course show greyhounds can still run, and many do, but they bear little resemblance to the greyhounds you'll see at the track. I'm afraid although you love your dog, and I'm sure he'll make an excellent pet but I don't think showing would be the right way to go. If you want to do something fun with him why not go along to your local whippet/all breeds racing club, or maybe try your hand at agility with him. For this he would only need to be registered on the activities register.

Actually I met a lovely racing greyhound the other day who is a successful show dog(in the regular classes too BTW)as well as a racing winner who is from NRGC breeding only no show dogs in her pedigree at all

yes, I knew someone would pop up with an example of an ex-racer being shown and in fact re-reading my own post it did look a bit harsh. However, I really enjoy greyhound racing, and do go quite often, and I'm a hound lover and have judged greyhounds. I've have to say that I've NEVER ever seen a dog at the races that would make a half decent show dog. The successful show dog you mention is it by any chance successful at open shows where there aren't any other greyhounds?

:::running for cover now having really over stepped the mark

All this aside though, assuming the dog can be registered he can of course be shown, and his owner may have lots of fun with him. As long as the OP goes along knowing that their dog may look very different from the other dogs there.

I was judging Greyhounds at Darlington Ch show a couple of years ago and there were ex racers entered there, about 3 or 4 of them if I remember correctly.  Obviously, no they don't match up to the show dogs but they still managed to enter and put in a good showing performance.  I must admit I really fell for them personality-wise :D  They were all waggy and were leaning on me while I was going over them :D So it is possible to have them registered with the KC - I just don't know how you'd go about it.

Thats sums up my ex racer perfectly - all waggy and leaning on me.:) Do agree will probably not win a lot, my ex racer is very unusual looking he has ears with a life of their own and you can tell what mood he is in depending on how he carries his ears and such a variety he comes up with.:) If yours is like mine he would love all the attention at a show, go for it.

He sounds gorgeous Izzy :)  I love it when the zois ears go all directions...I think it's some sort of pack sign, left ear up - friend approaching, both ears up - you wanna go hunting? Ex-racers do make fabulous pets don't they, which is just as well as the industry creates so many of them!

awwww thats soo cute my ex-racer is exactly the same, she definitely likes to lean and squirm at the same time. It never ceases to amaze me how much the GH can eat and still keep her figure :D :D i'd have ten GHs if i could   I agree he would love the attention.
