my german shepherd bitch has just been diagnosed with this awful illness
can anyone explain how it spreads, can it be realistically be cured and outlook
for her?

I am sorry to hear about your girl but am sure I saw something on this in Dog World a while back - does anyone else recall it or do they keep archives where they can tell you what appeared when. It might have been Vet's view

You threw me a bit Guest ! I was looking for Anal Furunculosis but it is better known as Perianal Fistulas. Its pretty bleak isn't it :-( but have a look at this site link below, as it seems to have the most information about this condition.
