i have been going through all my vet recipts looking for a claim form and i have come across a recipt for a xray and bandaging, and have just realised this was for my bitch as when she was about 6 months she was hit by a car (when i say hit it was more of a case of the car backing into her).the thing is i have had her hipscored in the last few weeks, do you think this will make much differance to the score the vet who took xray for scoring said it looked but she also said the right hip looked slightly worse i am now worring about it

It could be taken into account.  If you have any queries when the score comes back you can appeal and maybe if the right side is much higher than the left you might have a case??

You only have 30 days to do it in and they more than likely won't change the score, but at least if you were thinking of breeding and something was said to confirm that the accident had some involvement in the final score you never know!

I've never appealed so I don't know the ins and outs of it but someone on her might be able to advise.

my teyha run in a tree at 4 months she was very badley hurt,she couldnt walk for 4 weeks.she had her hip score the hit side 14 the other 3 total 17 the avage in our breed is 9

My bitch had a left leg injury at 12 weeks combined with a stifle joint infection. When we had her hips scored, guess what??  RH 6 LH 15. Her litters sisters were LH 5, RH 5 and LH 5 RH 5.

We had a bitch who was hit by a car and one hip was higher then the other...she was still under breed average though altogether.

When my bitch was a pup she was injured- the side she sustained injury was scored at 10 and the other hip 6- she's still under breed average though, her litter sisters have came out at 10 and 12 so who knows if she was meant to be more towards the 12 mark herself.

As genetically hip dysplasia is a bilateral condition the real geneitc influence shoudl mean a fairly even score.  when ypou get an uneven score this is where it is likely that environmental factors have had their effect.

With a one sided score I would always take the true genetics as being something similar for the worse side, so I would expect the high side to really have meant to be no more than a couple of points worse than the better side, especially with siblings to compare to.

Agree with what Brainless is saying here. one side higher than the other is often the result of damage. My boy scored 3 - 8 he had broken his hip as a very young pup. When he was x-rayed the vet sent in a letter explaining he had had the break, while it did not make any difference to the score he got, it is recorded at the BVA on his records that he did suffer a break which has affected his hip score. Your vet could send the letter now before the 30 days somebody said it was, but ideally it should have been sent with the original x-ray, I was told by my vet, hence Arty's got sent with the x-ray plate when it went for scoring.

My bitch broke her leg at 13 weeks old.  Unfortunately it was near the growth plate.  She now has one leg ever so slightly shorter than the other.  When hip scored she was 4/13. The 13 being on the broken leg.  Her sister is a 3/3.  In my mind she is technically a 4/4 as I realise that it is not genetic. I didn't try to appeal as she is still below breed average and I don't believe that they would score it any differently.

I agree. A hipscore of 2:12 is, to my understanding, genetically better than one of 7:7, although the total is the same. Am I right in thinking that other countries' scoring methods amalgamate both scores and give simply the one total, or have I got that wrong?

I'm not even going to go there  Especially not with Spain's scoring, haven't a clue what their scoring is!

Sweden and Finland do both i.e.  A/A, B/B or A/B or whatever.  Thank God that my dog's offspring in these two countries and America are scoring A/A's and B/B's !!
