Hi everyone,
This may seem a silly question...but how much do you give the pups when starting to wean?
Ours are 3.5 weeks and are having 4 small meals a day and mum as well afterwards and i am fairly sure during the night as well. According to the bag (RC) they should have twice as much but I am reluctant to increase too much as they might get loose and are anyhow very content and plump. How fast should I increase the amount? here are 11 of them!

Sorry I mean there are 11 of them.

Hi

If they are content and plump they are getting enough.

At 3.5 weeks they are still very little and will still be getting a lot of food from mum. Do they finish the amount you give them? if they do add a little more, if not wait until they do and then add more.

I tend to ignore the recomened amounts on the back of the bag, it always seems to be more than my dogs can eat regardless of the brand.

To a certain extent it depends on the size of the puppy. At that age mine (dalmatians) are having a teaspoonful each per meal.

That's great, thanks for that.

Should we go to 5 meals a day? They are 4 weeks tomorrow, mum still hops in after their meals and i suspect at night.

Yes certainly 5 smallish meals. Their stomachs are still tiny, and you don't want to overload them.

If they are finishing all the food you give them, they are not having enough.
I prefer pups to leave some food & then I know they've had enough.
