I have just started weaning my 3 1/2 week old puppies. they are on rice pudding mixed with puppy kibble which seems to be going down a treat. What I wanted to ask was how often a day should I be feding them and letting them on mum to feed. The pups are very healthy and are quite fat so I dont want to start over feeding them.

Also have been advised to feed mince meat rolled into litle balls but not sure if this should be cooked or raw HELP!!

Thank you everyone..

For the first couple of days of weaning I only give mine a tespoonful of food once a day, then twice a day for a couple of days, until their gut has got used to solid food. The minced meat (twice through the mincer, or scraped) should be given raw. :)

Their mum should still have free access to them whenever she wants.

If you are going to be feeding mince raw, please freeze it first, then defrost it.  Sorry but can't remember the name of the problem that can be carried by raw mince, but it's destroyed by freezing.
