I have a bitch (second litter) who is currently four days late - day 67 ! She was only mated once on day 12 and yes is definately pregnant !!! I have spoken to the vet who suggests that as long as she is well, taking exercise and happy in her self then not to worry until 7/10 days !!! - This seems a little long to me ? Anyone had any similar experiences !!! any advise appreciated !!!

My last litter was born on day 68 from the first mating (on day 18 of her season). :)

I definitely wouldn't leave it 10 days!! Seven maybe but that's only if I'd been feeling a lot of movement.
Hi, sperm can live in bitch up to 4 day so she may not have fell preg staight away, but if i were you i would not leave her more than 5 day late. i to breed cocker spaniels and mine usually go two days before due date, hope all go well for you and your bitch regards debbie.

One of my girls - cocker spaniel - her last litter was born on day 67 but ended with a c-section as she was HUGE, ended up with 8 pups, all 12oz+, labour had started but she just didn't get to the pushing stage.
Is she big/small??

Hi everyone and thanks for all your comments !!! She is very big and her pups in the last litter (Qty 5) were all approx 12/13 oz (she is a small bitch !) we lost one due to it being too long being born (megan struggled to push them out !!) . Thought she may have gone in to labour overnight ..... no such luck (another sleepless night !!!!) anyway, she is still busy shredding paper (she has done for four days now) but if we havn't had progress by pm will take her to the vet !. Will keep you all informed !!!.... and thanks again !

In this situation I would certainly have started temp taking. So that the bitch doesn't goes too far past the correct drop in temp day. IF the drop happens and no puppies in 48 hours I would honestly think there is a hold up.
I agree with your vet, if all is well with your bitch, let nature take it's place, I doubt that she would make it to 10 days overdue, and your bitch should be whelping any day now. Just keep an eye on her. If she still has produced no pups after 7 days I would ask your vet to give your girl a scan just to make sure all is still well and that she does not need a C-Section.
If it is any consolation I know someone who's bitch was 6 days late, so it does happen and all was well.
Good luck! :-)
Had a similar situation years ago with a Rottie bitch. Panick stations and backwards and forwards to the vet. She whelped on day73!!! 9 healthy pups.

It doesn't matter what day you mate the bitch on she will still only produce the pups from the day she ovulated. If you mated her on day 12, as someone else has already said, the semen can live for up to 4 days therefore, she could go over the date you were expecting the birth.

Actually the sperm would be expected to last at least 4 days but can survive and reamin viable for a week or more.
So a bitch mated day 12 who didn't ovulate until later would apear to be overdue.

Hi Everyone and thank you once again for all your comments !!! Took Megan to the vets who gave her a check over and suggested a C-section immediately !!! - 4 big healthy pups weighing 15 1/2 to 15 3/4 oz each !!! big for a **** !!! Mum and babies all very well !!! - glad I took her now as the vet said that she would have struggled to give birth due to the size and the positioning and also that they were definately ready to be born !!!! - Cheers for all your comments !!!!
