this may sound a parculiar question. it is a serious one thougth.

a house near me has 3 SBT dogs. it is also a well known fact that the young lads who live there, smoke cannabis. you can always smell it coming from there house when you walk past.
they are ussualy sat in the frount section of the house, music blaring ,smoking the cannabis.

they then go out on the town taking the SBT dogs, and generally causing mayhem.

i was wondering if the dogs would be effected by the cannabis, and if so what kind of reaction would they have?
coudl it make the digs aggresive, to the point of being dangerous, turning on the handler?

turning a usually friendly dog in to a danger?

just a weird curious pondering

I went to a Ziggy Marley gig (;) LJS) and the air was thick with Cannabis.  I've never even tried it (done plenty of stupid things but taking drugs is not one of them) but the next day boy did I have a 'thick' head and when I spoke I sounded like Ertha Kitt   I can't imagine that the dogs would not be affected.  Having said that the bad behaviour is more likely to be sheer lack of control/training by the twerps that own them than the effects of Cannabis IMO.

I have heard of 2 seperate cases where drug induced owners have given drugs to their dogs(not by smoking obviously) in both these cases the dogs were rescued, of course I dont know if its true of not, but things like that probably do go on.

Cannabis usually has the opposite effect on humans. It makes them more relaxed.  When a friend went to a football match abroad last year he said that anyone who was drunk was kept a very close eye on by the local police - the people who were stoned were allowed to go about their business. The police told him they'd far rather all footie fans smoked pot than drank alcohol. LOL

As for it affecting the dogs - if they're in very close proximity of the people who were smoking then yes I would say it could have an effect - but I doubt they'd be affected if they were outside.

That's not strictly true. My partners mum works with kids who have had a serious drug history, and cannabis use can lead to aggressive behaviour.

I know someone who's dog got stoned when some impolite friends turned up and just pulled the drugs out. They were young and it was their parent's dog. Boy did she get a telling off!

A friend's brother gave their cat "speed" :rolleyes: It was very funny apparently :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

A friend of a friends springer died when he was only one year old of a heart attack, which I am convinced was because they used to blow cannabis smoke in his face. Got the impression that the dog was quite often out of it!
I never saw it myself, or would have definatly had word with them!

I have enough vices with my cigarettes and 'ribena' without dabbling in Cannabis, but I have a friend who does indulge and his cat 'appears' to get merrily 'stoned' when its smoked around him; and as others have said it makes the cat even more laid back rather than aggressive

I had a frien at University who lived with her sister. Her sister got a kitten around the same time that she got a boyfriend that was heavily into smoking dope. The boyfriend and his mates were always in their house and always smoking dope around the kitten. The kitten started to show some very odd behaviours and after a while, my friend's sister sent the kitten to live with their parents in the country. It took weeks for the kitten to start behving like a normal cat but it went on to live a long and happy life and didn't appear to have any long term effects.

i think it will definitely affect the dogs if the dogs are indoors- ive seen pets that were stoned- and they seemed very clumsy and slow, and quite quiet...

....apart from wearing flowers in her hair and chanting..........

I'm quite sure that if humans can get stoned, dogs can too. To be honest, I'd say it is a form of abuse, as the animals can't choose to partake or not...like some of the animals mentioned above. Not fair

I'll just qualify that by saying that I had some very good friends who took cannabis and had dogs, one of them lived in a caravan and had 2 mastiff type dogs, and all the animals were fine. However they never purposely tried to get the dogs stoned or anything and never smoked a lot or all the time :)

When I was a teenager we used to smoke a bit and one of our friends had a retriever that used to eat the bits of cannabis that were left lying around - he slept quite well afterwards but didn't seem any different apart from that.  I guess it's probably not good to be exposed to a lot of smoke - I would think more from a lung health thing, same as with passive cigarette smoking.

i dont know about getting stone.

but yesterday i put a packet of poppy seed to the side to give to a friend.when i came down strairs blue had eat the packet and seeds.never gave it another thought untill i went to work,then i remmbered that poppy seed are opium.so she was either going to be high as a kite when i got home.but she was ok.
