My Standard Poodle pup Gypsy is now just over 5months old. I've been sticking with the 5mins for every month rule regarding her exercise. So she get 25mins a day off lead walk through the fields, which she loves.

Me and a few friends always take our dogs out for a good two hr walk every saturday. Although since I've had Gypsy I've turned back early and my Westie Kerrie has gone on with my friends.

Now my question is would it hurt Gypsy to carry on with everyone once a week? I'm 100% sure she could deal with it, she's full of energy, but will it damage her bones or anything?
Should I just stop being impatient and wait! :rolleyes:

I would probably let mine have a walk that long once a week but I would keep an eye on her at first and build it up over a few weeks, going from 25 mins to 2 hours is a bit much to do straight away.
I dont think once a week wouldn't do her much damage if you limit how much off lead time she has during the walk, ie, dont let her run off lead for the whole walk.

I probably WOULDN'T let her go that far just yet, she's still very young and developing slowly...I personally would wait until she's a year old before doing that much...remember, you can do a LOT of damage that cannot be rectified if severe! All the best, Dawn

I agree with Dawn, I think 2 hours is a bit too much at 5 months. If you want to though, you could leave her at home and do the 2 hour walk with your friends and your other dog?

I agree. A 5 months old Standard Poodle still has a lot of growing to do. Her skeleton is still developing. Just be a bit more patient, she'll get there :)
