I have a 4 mth old pup. He came to me from someone who couldn't manage him. Apparently he slept in his basket in the kitchen at night. I have left him in the kitchen in a puppy pen since he came to me. He has whined for a a few minutes when first put to bed and then settled for the rest of the night . I have been really pleased. Last night he didn't make a sound when he went to bed but about 2 hours afterwards he started barking and whining and carried on all night on and off. I checked he was ok and then tried to ignore him and didn't come down to him again until OH had to go to work. He was fine as soon as I got up excited to see me and playing as usual. I feel like he has gone backwards. Any ideas?

How long have you had your pup?  He has obviously had an unsettled few weeks and may now just be accepting that he is actually staying with you, has formed a bond and wants to be with you more and more.  Just persevere and ignore his whines during the night.  I am sure he will soon settle!

Thanks. He has been with us for just over a week now. He has formed a bond with me and follows me around. He wont go outside first thing in the morning or if he has been on his own without me. So I think you could be right. I did ignore him, just aswell the house is detached or our neighbours wouldn't be very happy with that!!!! Bless him.
