Which do you have more of? Males or Females? :)
- By spanishwaterdog [gb] Date 26.04.06 13:54 UTC
I have 3 females at home and 2 males.  With my mum and dad they have 2 females!
- By LJS Date 26.04.06 13:55 UTC
I have always had girls :)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 26.04.06 13:58 UTC Edited 26.04.06 14:04 UTC
2 of each. Given the choice they would all be bitches. We'll get another girl when the boys go. Watch this space in about 8 years time!:D
- By mollaholland [gb] Date 26.04.06 13:59 UTC
2 males one female
- By RRfriend [se] Date 26.04.06 14:03 UTC
Always just girls. If I were to have just one dog, I'd defenitely have a male, though. :-p

2 males 3 females (either had even numbers or more bitches, only time I would have more males then females is if there were no females :) )
- By louisechris1 [gb] Date 26.04.06 14:03 UTC
4 bitches, 1 dog (and henpecked by all, poor boy!)
- By JaneG [gb] Date 26.04.06 14:29 UTC
Two of each, usually have more males borzois and female collies. You can have any number of male borzois together but I've found female zois sometimes fight - opposite way round with the collies :)
- By Goldmali Date 26.04.06 14:31 UTC
6 dogs 2 bitches (soon to be 3). Prefer boys every time! Unfortunately you can't mate two boys together and get pups!
- By Missie Date 26.04.06 14:57 UTC

- By judgedredd [gb] Date 26.04.06 14:58 UTC

:cool:I have 2 Newfie girls and 2 Yorkie boys...with another Newfie girl hopefully on the way and another booked for later this year!!

Oh and Insurance for all of them....4 dogs covered for £45 a month with M&S Insurance, including 2 giants, one a Veteran(so have to pay an excess of £50, which aint bad) all the others have the NO EXCESS option and you get 10% of each additional poilcy!
- By yrlance Date 26.04.06 15:19 UTC
We have three girls and one boy, just another question,  is the M&S insurance that good.  We are with direct line but are looking around for cheaper quotes.  We have two giant breed and two small.
- By newfiedreams Date 26.04.06 15:28 UTC
The Insurance is EXCELLENT!!! No extra weighting for Giant breeds, just extra bit for Cassie as she is over 8 years old...but it still only puts the premium up by about 80pence!!! With Petplan, even 6 years ago I was paying over £15 each dog! With an excess of £50!! All the others have a no excess option, which puts it up by about 12p a month!! I couldn't believe it! If ever you had to pay out for a major op I don't know that I could really afford it without worrying too much, now it's no problem! What Giants have you got??
- By yrlance Date 26.04.06 15:31 UTC
We have two Leonbergers, one is 7 years a girl and our boy who is 14 months and thinks he is boss.  That is until he tries it on with the two little girls who soon tell him off.

- By Goldmali Date 26.04.06 22:51 UTC
do any of you have problems with the males fighting when the females come into season, ????

I've never had that as a problem, but I've had the bitches fighting instead.
- By theemx [gb] Date 27.04.06 03:01 UTC
3 boys, one girl.....

I find that the one girl keeps the boys in line and that when boys fall out its something and nothing and they are back to using one another as cushions in minutes. Unlike my experience of multiple girls.... fall out over nothing, want to kill one another, huge vets bills, heartache all round.

I do just prefer boys in general though!

3 boys 4 girls - find the girls MUCH easier - mind you my boys are all quite young ( under 5) and still very bouncy - the girls have reaced the matronly stage (like me ;)) and just flop about once they've had their walk :d

3 girls 3 boys, all works well as they have their own order in the pack that everyone seems happy with. We have a boss boy who thinks he is king but the girls know better!!!!
- By rachelsetters Date 27.04.06 08:16 UTC
Sounds like my crew - except I have 4 boys to the 1 old lady (she is definitely a lady!)  The boys muck around together and the old lady just peruses and chills - has pride of place when going to bed and they can cuddle up to her if she will let them!

Previously only ever had 2 girls together and never experienced any fall outs.
- By rachelsetters Date 27.04.06 08:13 UTC
3 Gordon boys, 1 English Setter Boy and an old Irish lady!!

The Irish Lady is the Queen and rules the roost!

3 bitches
1 dog
- By archer [gb] Date 27.04.06 17:08 UTC
3 entire males ,1 speyed bitch and one entire bitch.
The males are fine together...the odd bit of postuering but nothing to speak of.The 2 bitches HATE each other. They would kill each other given half a chance. Can't even use a stair gate to seperate them as they try to drag each other through the bars:eek:
The boys can be more tetchy with each other when the bitch is at the height of her season

- By sara1bee [gb] Date 27.04.06 18:17 UTC
archer, how do you manage two bitches that want to kill each other in the same house?
- By archer [gb] Date 28.04.06 10:40 UTC
With a lot af care!!!! Its not even a case of that they size each other up if they get together...they go straight into a very serious fight EVERY time they meet.Hence we have to keep at least 2 barriers between them(gates or doors) at all times. The only time they is only one barrier is if one is crated(bars too narrow for them to harm each other). We have to rotate them every couple of hours but with 6 people in the house they have human contact most of the day.Its not ideal...and we know its a risk...Zara has already had a serious bite from Yam and had to be rushed to an emergency vet to be stitched up but now we are aware of the situation we ahev to just be extra careful

Remind me Your boys are one breed and the girls another aren't they?
- By archer [gb] Date 28.04.06 10:34 UTC
Yes Barbara..the boys are elkhounds as you know. All nice layed back characters with the exception of the youngest who is quite a forceful character who would like to be 'top dog'.However the odd bit of postuering is IMO not  PROBLEM.
The girls are Japanese shiba inus.....

I was just making sure as I certainly ahve found the Elkie bitches, even shoudl the odd tiff occur it is easily diverted, and touch wood has never got beyond posturing and swearing.
