Bit of an odd title I know but didn't know what else to put!!

I was just wondering if anyone here that has multiple dogs (more than 4) rents their home?  If you do, is it that you've found a great agent/landlord, have you had to pay an extra bond to cover any repairs etc?  Did you fib initially about how many dogs you had or were you completely honest up front?  If you have kennels have landlords preferred this or has it been a problem?

Sorry for the odd questions but if anyone has any good tips on finding a dog friendly landlord then please let me know (PM is ok)  :)

If anyone knows of a 2 bed property that will take 6 dogs (kennels for the youngsters, oldies live in), preferably central England becoming available in the next 5-6 months then again please PM me :)

Ta

nothing to do with this but i read the title as

RESENTING  MULTIPLE DOGS oops

i thought it was a very strange title for a dog forum.
think it is time for me to go to bed ;)

  :D :D :D

No worries :)

I think you have to be up front and tell them everything from the start. You can't then be evicted for not keeping to your agreement. If you have kennels then I think you would be looked more favourably, especially out in the country. The best people to ask are the local farmers. They sometimes have empty cottages that they are willing to let out. :)

Ive been renting privatley for the past 6yrs, majority of the time i have only had 2/3 dogs, both land ladies i have had, have been very accommadating, well the first one wasnt until she was told by estate agents that they were security dogs, she soon changed her mind when she realised no-one would want to break into her property. Saying ive only had 2/3 is a lie really, start off with that many, but i tend to find myself saying yes to boss when any come along that need foster homes or socialising, most i probably have at any one time is about 5, so i have always made a point of being upfront with land ladies, best policy really..also if u can, consider wat LindyLou has suggested about farmers, thats wat we did, and struck gold with the house we are in now.
Anyway happy hunting :-)

Regards Nicci

Thanks LindyLou :)  This is the route I'm taking, just sometimes you get fed up with hearing "how many dogs!!"

I've now come across what looks like a lovely cottage, already has kennels according to the details, available on a minimum 12 month let (I'm looking for somewhere long term as I hate moving) but......., isn't there always a but!  It also says that the cottage is available for sale although I can't find any other details on this.  I've emailed the agents (who are a countryside letting agent) & will also call them when they re-open on Tuesday and see what they say.  I've also had someone PM me about another possibility so hopefully will find us a new home soon :)

Thanks again everyone & keep all info coming

Edited to add, I'm going to a Country Fair/Show on Monday so may get to chat to some nice farmers there :D

We had alot of trouble trying to find a place that accepted pets,so when we looked at this place we just omitted telling the landlord about our dogs! We wouldnt have got this place if they knew we had dogs. However the landlord has been around tending to the gardens quite a few times, the first time i said that these were my sisters dogs and i looked after them a couple times a week,he has been around at least a dozen more times since then and each time has seen the dogs,he must think we look after them 7 days a week LOL,or more to the point he no doubt knows they are our dogs, but because we pay the rent on time each month and the place is always pico bello and no damage he turns a blind eye.

I really dont think(not sure) one can get kicked out of a house for *looking after someone elses* dogs, how are they going to prove they are yours and not really someone elses?? In my case there is nothing tying me to my dogs, like papers with me registered as their owner etc.

Ofcourse i wouldnt recommend lying to a landlord straight off the bat,,i would try all other avenues first.I would offer some extra cash on top of the bond incase of damage and dog related wear and tear.Of course once you have admitted to owning dogs there is no going back, unless you say you have given them to a friend and they will come visit every now and then :p

Admittedly if i was a landlord and i had a choice of a potential tenant with 6 dogs  or one without or only a couple,i would choose the latter :o I couldnt expect them to keep their dogs outside either,i would feel to guilty :(

Thanks Kate :)  I'm trying the honesty approach for now, things aren't desperate just yet ;)  I've also got 3 cats to take with me so another whammy to add
- By chrisjack Date 15.04.06 11:53 UTC
hey- ive got 2 cats and 1 dog- not as many as you, but soon i will need to look for a place to rent- im gonna be honest- and friendly with the landlord, im dreading it- but i'll look for a place out in the country so the animals can be outside alot!
- By bek [gb] Date 15.04.06 12:18 UTC
i rent a house and have 3 dogs. when my husband phoned estate agents he told them we had 3 dogs. i also think it is better to go with the little agents they were much more helpful:cool:
- By Harmony Date 15.04.06 15:20 UTC
Thanks Bek, I think you're right about choosing agents carefully.  I've found one agent, not spoken to them yet but they only deal with country properties.  They do have a cottage listed that looks & sounds ideal but have to wait until Tuesday to speak to them & then I'm off to France to see my parents Tuesday night so viewing anything will have to wait until the following week.  I'm sure the right place is out there for us somewhere

Thanks again :)

Well today I've been to see the most wonderful cottage with an acre of land, (option to have a bit more too!) surrounded by lovely countryside, all just perfect for me & the dogs   It needs a bit of work here & there but nothing I can't handle :D

Now I just want to ask all you wonderful CD-er's to please, please cross everything for me as it's a 2 horse race (there's someone else who has also applied to rent it!) & I soooooo want this cottage it's untrue   I felt so at ease there & just know that I could make it a great home for me & the dogs ~ who would be quite rightly in their element!!

I know if these things are meant to be then they'll happen but I will be really gutted if I don't get it

So please everyone, keep everything crossed for us :)  I doubt I'll get a reply this week but will be sure to update you when I do

Thanks in advance :)

Ugh you poor thing, what a anxious wait youre in for,i know just how youre feeling.Everything crossed here, and sending positive vibes your way :) Maybe wouldnt hurt to give the landlord a call during the week to emphasise how much you love this house and how you will look after as if it were your own,it might make you stick in his head more.Afterall who knows, the other applicant might be sending him flowers and chocolates,LOL  :D
- By Harmony Date 25.04.06 23:18 UTC
Thanks Kate :)  As it happens, the person who I've mainly dealt with so far, I went to school with her!!  Although I hadn't seen her since we left many moons ago   I did have quite a good chat with her followed up with an email this morning :D  All I can do now is sit tight even though the waiting is killing me

Thanks to everyone for keeping everything crossed, you're a great bunch & hopefully all the positive energy will work wonders

- By Lori Date 27.04.06 14:29 UTC
Fine chocolate from Hotel Chocolat. I've been looking at their website for over a year and finally place an order when I saw the easter eggs were on sale. I've described it on a previous post to HG, hence the reference to it.

Just ate one not 10 minutes ago and it was yummy!
- By Lori Date 27.04.06 14:32 UTC
oh and despite what HG is implying I promise not to drink all the gin :-D
- By Harmony Date 27.04.06 18:16 UTC
In that case, the more fancy eggs the better :D  As for the gin, who cares "hic" :D
- By Lori Date 27.04.06 18:25 UTC
Oh boy! but you better have that party quick cause I'm eating them all - oink, oink (where is the smiley with the curly tail)

Any news? Have you got the house?
- By Harmony Date 28.04.06 23:10 UTC
Well all the references were in by late this afternoon   The bank ref was the last one, stupid muppets didn't know how to complete the form  said they'd have to send it to HO & it would take about 2 weeks to process (they'd had it since Monday!)  So got the Letting Agents on the phone to tell them how to do it   It was then finally faxed through but by then the LA's had gone onto answerphone for the weekend

So.......... the short answer is, I'm still flipping waiting to find out!!  I'm very impatient :D  I've decided to give them until lunchtime Tuesday then I'll phone to see if they've made up their minds  :D

Please everyone continue to keep everything crossed for me   If I get it then you can all be assured of an invite to the house warming :D

Right, I should be in bed as I'm at WELKS tomorrow!!
- By Tracey123 [gb] Date 29.04.06 00:26 UTC
Have my fingers crossed for you (I havent got a dog but my hamster and horses have their legs and eyes crossed!!)

Keeping fingers and toes crossed for you.
Alternative option is your BC's can come and stay with my BC's. They'd love some more to play with.
Hope everthing goes well :)
- By Harmony Date 03.05.06 20:56 UTC
Ahhh thanks Megan   Things (my life!) got chucked up in the air a bit (a lot!) at the weekend

As it stands at the mo, I'm waiting for a particular form to come through for me to send back but it now could mean that I won't now know for upto another couple of weeks   The agents have been great so far so it's now all down to this damn form arriving & then being processed

Thank you everyone for continuing to keep everything crossed for me, I really do appreciate it & I'm sure it's all your good thoughts that are enabling the agents to remain patient ;)
- By megan57collies Date 15.05.06 11:09 UTC
Hi BorderPride
Any Good news yet?
- By Harmony Date 15.05.06 11:21 UTC
Hi Karen

No news as yet :(   Things all went a bit, shall we just say, "bums up"  I was waiting on some forms that now appear to have been lost    It's looking more & more unlikely as the days go on :(

BTW, did you go to B'ham yesterday?  I had a rubbish day (after a very long wait!) had to get Emma's breeder to handle for me as I felt so ill I daren't run in the ring

Thanks for thinking of me & this thread
