I have recently started my own business when I was looking for the premise I only looked at properties that had enough ground and  that were right for me to take Blu with me. I started a week ago tuesday and Blu has been there with me every day,he has 1/2 acre of garden, he has a room with a settee and telly and he can see me all the time but I have had to put up a stair gate to stop him comming in to where I actually work, I go into see him every hour at least, but he has not stopped crying, it is non stop! It go so bad today that clients were remarking on it. I thought I was doing the right thing but may be he would be better of at home with a dog walker. I ended up in tears tonight, thinking this is not how it was mean,t to be!

Maybe its just 'too much too soon' and he needs to get used to his new routine?

Hi
What breed is Blu and how old is he?  How different is this new set-up to his old regime?  In other words, were you working from home before and did he have your undivided attention or what? Does he have separation anxiety if you leave him at home to go to the supermarket or wherever for an hour? Loadsa questions I know, but they help to make sense of the best way forwards.
A DAP diffuser may help as well.

Good luck

PS  Remember that if you are setting up your own business you are likely to be stressed and no doubt he is picking up on that which may be one of the triggers too.

Hi Gunner,

Blu is a 16 month male dobe, we have had him since he was 8 weeks old, I have worked from home all the time I have had him and yes I suppose you could say he has had my undivded attention although he was never constantly at my side in fact he really would do his own thing. which is why I thought this set up would work. He is very important to me, as I have a special needs child who Blu has completely transformed. I won,t go into all the ins and outs of that as that is a whole different story.
When I have left Blu before he has been fine, but that was in his home enviroment.
What is a DAP diffuser?

and yes I am quite stressed!

It sounds like he is suffering from separation anxiety. A DAP diffuser is a thing that you plug in and it lets off a scent that calms the dog. Could you not have him in a crate where you work and gradually move it to where you want him to be? That way he can see you and know that you aren't abandoning him, but he isn't getting in your way.

I have just stopped working from my part time job and noticed my dog has become a little more whiney, so i have had to gradually started secludling him from me, just putting him behind the baby gate a little more often. He was fine when i worked 2 1/2 days a week, but then got used to the luxery of being with me all the time. So slowly i started leaving him alone again.

What a wonderful dog owner you are to put your dog first when thinking of a business, I think it will work out just fine!  Give it time, it is early days still, a new surrounding, people, it is like taking a puppy to a new home all over again, he will settle and he will be much, much happier with you at work than home alone with a sitter/walker, he would probably cry there too.

Give it another couple of weeks, hopefully he will have settled into his new routine by then, as well as a DAP, would he settle for a nice big knuckle bone to keep his mind off you and his strange surroundings.

Hopefully by week 3 he will be lounging around sleeping soundly whilst you are working. ;-)

Blu is very special he deserves to be treated with respect and love and he is a major part of my family. I need him to feel happy and settled and then I can work!!!!!!

Bless you what a good mum!  Make sure that you eat with him too, sit next to him on his sofa infront on the tv for a lunch break and eat a sandwich or something to re-affirm it is a good place. :-)
