I have posted on here numerous times about my BC puppy (Wicket), with the nerological swallowing problems. Anyways was just wondering at what age can a male dog be considered sexually mature? I have his brother also, who by 6 months you could see many physical changes including testicale enlargement,face getting broader,etc. He acts very much like what I would expect a mature male (now both around 11 months) to be like. The reason I'm asking is I have seen no changes in Wicket physically. His testicales are very, very tiny and he acts just like he always has. Don't get me wrong if he never really matures sexually that's great if you ask me. Not as many problems for me as far as keeping an intact male who should definately never be bred, of course I will never just assume and let my guard down. He will not be getting fixed as no vet dares to put him under, of course if I went by what they say he should not be alive today. Just took him the other day to the vet for a checkup and he shook his head in amazment that he lookes so awesome, and happy for a pup that was givin a 99% chance of not living past a couple days old. And believe me here soon when his first birthday comes he will be getting a huge party!! Sorry so long just wondering what you guy's have experanced as far as normal development, though as the vet says normal is not in this lucky pups vocabulary.

Puberty from 6 months, adulthood from about two and full social maturity at about four for my meium sized bred,a dn seems to be about right for most of the dogs I know.

So pleased to hear that Wicket is doing well. You should be so proud you got him through.
Having the same breed touches on the nerve even more I think.
Right, Sexual maturity. Take two male dogs from a litter. Both 19 months. One wants to play tennis ball all day, other one wan't to play doctors and nurses all day. So I don't think there is ever a complete pattern even in the same litter. In terms of body maturity. Both are slow maturers, but one of them at 12 months looked much the older dog. Dog and bone came on quicker. Now this has slowed down and the other one is started to change in all areas.
Sorry this doesn't really tell you a lot does it, except for the fact you can have two dogs out of the same litter and they are different in every way. (one is mine and one is a friend's by the way, in case someone moans at me for having two dogs out of the same litter)

Now i've read the story again and looked at the beautiful pictures of Wicket. I'm in floods again.
What a lovely boy and what lovely dogs.
Do keep us updated of how he's doing. He certainly is looking well.

Thanks for looking at the web site. You really would't know by looking at him what he's been through. I need to do more work and update the site. Only so much time in a day. Like you I'm surprized no one has givin me a hard time for having 2 boys out of the same litter, but things don't always work out as planned. I wanted to keep one and Wicket was not suppose to be an option(Thank God he is)! So I still wanted one good male and Wicket, besides my overwhelming attachment could not be homed elswhere. Back to the subject hopefully he will just remain my playful buddy and not turn into such a sex oriented dog as his brother, though he has been slow to mature in pretty much every aspect.

Thanks again for looking. As I said his birthday coming up soon(will be a year old), will be quite an achievement for this little guy, and one often taken for granted.
