Hi We have had a puppy go to a home and at twelve weeks his testicle has not decended my vet advised that they can go up and down like yoyos in the first 4-5 month has anyone had any feed back or experience in this. He has advise a course of testosterone which can often bring it down (so they say) so another thing I am wanting to have feedback on. My concern is that even with this treatment he should not be bred from. This is my first ever testicle problem in 12 yrs and at eight weeks we were not able to determine either way as chihuahua's testicles are impossible to feel at that age This couple want to show and love the puppy but this is going to put the kybosh on their plans. We have offered to take him back but they want to keep him till hes 6 months just to wait and see. Some of your experience would be most welcome.

He's still only a baby and got plenty of time for them to come down yet. One thing to advise is for them not to keep messing a bout with them or it can hinder them coming down. He can have a good few months yet but they fully descend and I wouldn't mess about with testosterone at this early age.
My RR pup has only one testicle descended (he's 10.5 weeks), but my vet said no need to worry as this is not abnormal and it could be many months before the 'shy' one puts in an appearance :-D

I had a peke pup who had a retained testicle. It was in his groin area.I had the testicle removed so that he could go to a pet home.He was about 7mths old at the time.I prayed and hoped that it would drop, but it didnt. The vet said to me after the op that it wouldnt have dropped anyway.
I have heard that they can quite often drop,so it would be worth waiting, just leave it well alone!

I agree, it's very early yet, even at 10 months they can still come down, though less likely of course. Don't fiddle with it! :-D
I've heard of dogs as old as 2 dropping their bits!! Personally I would wait until they were fully adult before I would consider it a lost cause (pardon the pun) and take surgical action.

My young boy was down at 12 weeks but my friends dog didn't drop one until 10 months. It's not that uncommon. I wouldn't even mess around with injections either. Just give him some time and like other posts have said, leave them alone.
thanks for your advice you echo my thoughts on the matter but the lady seems determined to return him dispite being told it may take many months she had a very sudden change of heart from the previous day when she wanted the injections. I am not sure how to read this one I really think she is trying to get rid of the pup so quick when she supposedly loves him. I feel very frustrated and dont really know what to do. I think shes changed her mind and is possibly using this as an excuse to return him becuase all the info and experience says 12 weeks is far to young to be make rash descisions. I warned her that I could not possibly guarantee a show puppy at such a young age that anything can happen between now and six month. I have all my communication stipulating such. The first we knew of things was when she asked if they sold the puppy would I give them a discount on a second puppy later in the year, then said I should rehome him on their behalf and now they are going for a full refund prior to rehoming. I realy think I should get this baby back, i feel so angry at these people for messing us about and this puppy about.Where are our rights when you need them what do you think??
Get the puppy back. Sounds like these people are just trying to find excuses. Get him back and find another loving home for him. I'm always gobsmacked people seem to want a deal on a puppy.
Go with your instincts and if they're telling you to get him back, get him back. Otherwise they may sell him on elsewhere without your knowledge.
I know sometimes you say you'll give them the money back minus the cost of keeping him before rehoming but I think it's more important you get him back and you know he's ok. Get him transferred back then tell them that you won't supply them another puppy. They're not the right owners for your dogs. I do have sympathy if people realise they have made a mistake in getting a pup. At least they'll be honest in returning the pup. But from what you've said about these people. I'm getting warning bells going off in my head. A dog is a living thing not something you pick up off the shelf in a sale
will do thanks for all your help you guys youve all been great.
