went out today to give dogs some treats & our springer boy whom is 6 yelped & dropped his smacko treat, i immediatly took hold of him & had a look to see why he yelped, no sign of any obvious sores or stings etc, tried to open his mouth & he screamed, poor lad had a look at his teeth & cannot see anything amiss there, but was only a quick look, going to vets with him at 3-40, he really is off colour...
yesterday he had an eye infection....i put some chloromycetin in & they do appear a bit better today...i am really worried about him & hope its nothing too sinister but i always think the worst anyway...
seems the pain is around his bottom half of mouth

Poor lad! Please let us know what the vet thinks. Don't worry about it being something serious. It could well be as simple as a bit of wood from a stick or something, gotten caught inbetween his teeth. Always next to impossible to open a dog's mouth to have a proper check, if it is in pain in that area.
Good luck!

thanks karen, he is usually full of fun & bouncing mad...but like us humans we have off days too & i dont think if i felt like him i would be bouncing too
i am working after i go to vets so will not be back online until after 8 so will let you know how he gets on, should it turn out to be more serious i will not be going to work
i guess i am getting worked up for nothing but hate to see my babies in pain

Will keep fingers crossed it's nothing serious!

Does his mouth have a bad smell Shirley?

My Irish Setter has a problem with lip fold excema and infection. I just have to be vigilant about keeping his mouth very clean, and I use betadine skin disinfectant when it starts up.

Hope it turnsout to be something minor.

hi there thanks for your posts, had tanna at the vets this afternoon where he recieved a good examination but i did not like the vet at all, not our usual vet...the only thing he could find was swollen lymph glands,  that was his explanation anyway...i explained about his eyes being sore too & he asked if he has problems sneezing or coughing of which the answer was no...his head also seem a little more in size but not swollen, it is really hard to explain without seeing, also across his stop seems a little wider too,& vet said that lymph glands being up could cause this, i am still really worried about tanna, will see how he fairs tomorrow & maybe consult another vet in the practice...tanna has not eaten since 5-30 this morning & rufusing to eat full stop... i guess i would too if i was in pain...
vet prescribed him ketofen & baytril,
i am not happy at all with how tanna is maybe i am just worrying far too much & after all we put our dogs lives in the hands of trusted vets but they do make mistakes !!!
as for his mouth yes dawn it has a bit of a smell, not something i have noticed before have bathed with a salt water solution but vet says there is not infection there

Poor chap, I hope he feels better tomorrow. Don't be afraid to ask for a second opinion if you're not happy - you know your dog best! :-)

Hi Spaniel Mad,
How is your boy doing today? If no better still, i would definitely seek different opinion. Preferably from a vet that will give him a sedative, to be able to check properly.
Hoping he's better,
Karen

hi everyone thanks for all your posts
tanna is tooking a little brighter today but still struggling with his mouth, did eat a little this morning am now giving him some of the pups eukanuba of which are real small biscuits so easier for him to eat however when giving him his medication it is still causing a great discomfort & protests by yelping, poor lad but has to have them, i will monitor his situation over the next 12 hours & will do what i need to, but will not be seeing that vet again, i have no faith in him at all !!! i mean when asking him for wormer he said oh he will be about 35kg, i said errrrrrrr no, like 24.20kg, he said are you sure, i replied i know my dogs weight...lol infact i had just weighed him before hand
just a little minor thing i know but god surely a simple thing like a dogs approx weight should be known, i mean he was 10kg out...not always easy to access a dogs weight by looking but god........that got up my nose...
when i tried to explain all about how tanna was looking with his head, face etc he said errrr im not sure what you mean, i explained all about how different his head, stop area & muzzle was looking he was like what do you mean...he had to stand back to see what i was saying....did he really see what i was trying to explain.................mmmmmmmmmm i wonder!!!!!!!!!!!
i cannot understand either why a sedative was not administered to have a good look in his mouth !!!
