Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Tiny companion obedience brag!

Just got back from an obedience show in Hitchin, I know it's not like a major win, but it's the first time I've taken Ellie to a proper obedience competition. We got 10th out of 40 in 'Triers' and 11th out of 32 in 'Improvers', and I was so pleased with her performance. The stays were perfect, even in a field with strange dogs running and barking everywhere, even when the dog next to her sat up. We mostly lost marks on wide heelwork - too much breed training! :-D

Well done, that is very good for your first attempt.  :)

Be careful it can become addictive

Well done! Always impressed with  all of you competing  in obedience. My nerves are not strong enough for that, I stick to showing, which is bad enough on my nerves :-p

I have entered Obedience classes at Exemption shows three times.

The first was with my BSD puppy who ran out of the ring to my freinds at ringide in the recall.

The other two occasions was with my Elkhounds, and I got in a right mess trying to work out which way to go with lefts and rights from the steward.

On the first occaion Elka lay down as they were calling time in the sit stay, of course did a lovley down stay despite it being part of a horse show.

On the second occasion it was asmall ring with a large class and the dogs for the sit stay were literally shoulder to shoulder.

Poor Tula was sat sandwhiched betwejh two large GSD's and wimped out and came with me into the centre. :D

Nope showing iin conformation is far easier:eek:

Take it Brie's first show and she was a typical puppy Rox?! :)
- By ice_queen Date 24.04.06 16:37 UTC
Yes Rachel.  Movement consisted of up and down so I was told.  I was afew miles away at work and Bro at another show, Dad on crutches, Mum (who doesn't show!) took her in! :D  Bree LOVED it! :D

Oh dear - sorry to hear your dad's on crutches.  Hope he is better soon!

Up and down - like that - at least four legs were on the ground at some point!!  Poor mum having the responsibility of first show!  Bless Bree - the main thing is she enjoyed herself hey!! :)

That's so lovely - well done to you Lucy and of course Ellie!
- By LucyD [gb] Date 24.04.06 16:21 UTC
Aw thanks everyone! :-) Must admit I didn't immediately notice a setter there, and I was of course on the lookout for any spaniels or setters as they are my favourite. So I must have missed you Icequeen - any luck? Are you going to the other Hitchin companion show on 7th May? My girl got chucked out of breed and 3 variety classes, but I didn't care too much as I was so pleased with her obedience!

No luck but didn't expect anything.  Bree mis behaved terribly, the show was for experiance only she was "just six months" and the judge knew that.

Doubt if I am going on the 7th.  Didn't go yesterday, was just the parents but it's only afew miles from us and the organising club is our obedience club.

I always think I'd be worried about a 6 month puppy who didn't misbehave! :-D As long as he had fun that's the main thing! Well done to him anyway. :-)
- By ice_queen Date 24.04.06 20:48 UTC
Totally agree!  She was allowed to have fun and enjoy herself.  maybe at souther couties (first champ show) she will just behave abit better!!!!!!!
