Yesterday we attended a Dobermann Show in Germany, with our 7 month old Dobe bitch, Kimmy. She won the first place in the puppy category (6 - 9 months of age).
The judge said Kimmy's general look is very harmonic, with all parts of her body in balance and proportion, that she has powerful yet lean legs, lovely head profile, correctly shaped ears in proper position, and an expressive tail. She said Kimmy will grow into a real beauty :)
The best thing was that except for 2 Dobes who were cropped and docked, the rest were natural. (And those altered ones competed in the working dog category, so it made sense).
The judge was a Luxembourger, Mrs Melchior, a very nice, gentle lady who was very thorough with judging and placed great importance on the movement - elegant trot was a must.
Katie, proud Dobermama
Our girl was the breeder's pick of the litter, but she eventually kept a different pup, so we got Kimmy and now we see that the breeder was right. The pup she kept is much smaller and shorter than ours, and is not as lovely, but has a great work drive, so she will go into Schutzhund instead of showing.
The breeder even drove two hours to be at the show with us and cheer us on, she was so proud of her "baby" :)
