Hi All
Molly is off to the vets about this 2moro (if I can get an appt) but thought I'd run it by you lot first...
We have just got back from a week away, Molly (1yr lab) was left with the in-laws who love their walks so she was taken on a lot of long walks despite me advising them not to over do it with her. When we picked her up she was quite stiff & seemd to be limping slightly (it was very late so I thought maybe it was cos she had just woken up) but she's still quite stiff now & is limping ever so slightly. I've asked the inlaws & they say she hasn't fallen or showed any problems whilst we were away. Since we got back she has been rested & only taken on short leaded walks to the local park but it doesn't seem to be easing up, she's still stiff when she wakes up & is still limping a bit. Our dog walker used to be a vet nurse & she has recommended cod liver oil (I've done a search on here & it has been recommended in the past) but I was wondering if you use the human version & how much? She also mentioned the vet may prescribe some homeopathic (sp?) rememdies, does anyone have any experience of this?
Thanks

Maybe Molly has just overdone it on her walks with your in-laws. Whenever our GR was stiff after too much exercise, we found that complete rest from walks helped, combined with hydrotherapy. We gave him cod liver oil each day too - we used human version and gave him 1000mg per day, but he was a big dog - apparently shouldn't be given in the warm weather. Have a look at
http://www.canine-health-concern.org.uk/ this will tell you lots you need to know about alternative remedies.
Obviously you'll know more when Molly has seen the vet!
Good Luck
Maria
I give my bc cod liver oil every day but not once the weather has warmed up as I was told it can contribute to them overheating (dog or horse version is cheaper than human) I then turn to primrose oil until the weather cools again in the Autumn. However this will not cure the problem your dog has now, just an extra supplement to their diet
What previous replies have says seem right. A 1 year old lab shouldn't have any major problems but they are still growing (skeletal and muscular) so I think that she's been over exercised.
Rest her, check with the vet and get her checked out for your own peace of mind. But I think it will be a case of rest, perhaps with some hydratherapy.
I have a one year old Lab and he was limping slightly a couple of weeks ago.I kept him from walks for 2/3 days then he was fine,I also gave him green lipped muscle extract could have been a coincidence but he is fine now and can walk for 1- 11/2 hours with no probs.

I always give mine Rhuta Grav 30 when I feel they are stiff or lame. Rhuta Grav is for sprains and strains. I always find it works.
Hi Gemma,
Rich said that Lisa had to take them eparately yesterday.
Has there been any improvment? What did the vet have to say?
Maybe too much bouncing chasing them bubbles

Hope everything OK, keep us posted!

Further to my previous post...
After lots of rest & some glucosamine Molly's legs seemed fine however we went to Scotland last week & took her on a reasonably long, hilly walk, she seemed fine all the way round however when we got back, after she had had a little sleep, she stiffened up badly & couldn't bend her front right leg. I massaged it for her & took her for a gentle walk, it loosened up & she was fine. She was due for her boosters, flea & worm stuff so I mentioned it to the vet who had a good look & has recommened full x-rays of all her legs to see what the problem is...now I'm very very worried! She's booked in next Weds & I'm really scared there is something seriously wrong with her! :(
