I saw an advert today asking for a siberian husky puppy. Fair enough you might think... but then I read on "To swap for psp with 5 original games. Still under shop guarantee and boxed"!!! Another puppy for a child who got bored of the toy their parents got them... how long do you reckon til they try to swap the puppy for something else?

Are you serious? That is terrible.

then in 6 months time the dog will be swapped for a dvd player or something .......what idiots

UNBELIEVBABLE! Husky breeders that I know are pretty strict, so I doubt that they would get any further than phoning distance.............. apart from the back yard breeders, but I doubt that would inspire them either.

The sad thing is that if it were the other way around, pup in exchange for PSP the deal would be done by plenty of game mad children out there. (My boy included! :-D would be sneaking a pup out of the house!)

I think the new Disney film Eight Below Zero may have something to do with the latest 'want' by kids who have seen the film. I predict a huge rise in rescue huskies in the coming months.

I think you're right. I saw a review of that Disney film, and the first thing it reminded me of was Hagrid's dog in Harry Potter. I don't know what breed it actually is as I am not that good on recognising them, but it was a very popular 'want' on children's christmas and birthdays lists and I can see that happens with Huskies now.

I thik Fang is a Neopolitan Mastiff :)
- By NannyOgg [gb] Date 24.04.06 11:23 UTC
yes, that was it! Can you imagine a child asking for that for Christmas?? Their huge!

Joking aside, it does happen. I bet a lot of kids were asking for owls and rats too.

Mmmm Ive long suspected we're yet to see this tip of the ice berg with this one, a recent car advert, quite a few films and already its quite evident the 'novelty' factor is wearing off for some :(
All breeds fall victim to these 'fads' (101 Dalmations,Turner&Hooch etc) its just the Siberian is not the dog for everyone. Careful thought and understanding is needed for Housing, enclosure, excercising and developement/training.
Ive lost count of the amount of people who've asked me recently always first question How much was he?
So I take great delight in replying around £575,000 so far.. they laugh then realise Im serious ;) after having bought property that had enough land to excercise him securely off lead, and having fenced all areas, even the price of laying concrete and proper concreted in fencing in a small portion of our land gets a raised eyebrow when I say the cost of just that....
The poor pup...

Its sad but it reflects our now throw-away society of never appreicateing things or wokring for them. Everything is buy now pay later, and people seem to make decisions on a whim and then tire and get bored. It is animals who ultimately suffer. It really saddens me to hear of animals being swopt or sold at a young age because 'of allergies' or 'we didn't realise how playful they are' etc. I met a little boy on a walk with his parents the other day and he wanted to stroke my dog, and while he was he happily told me he was allergic to their german shepherd so his mum took her to be put down!!!
It makes me sick. Suffice to say I walked away and muttered under my breath a lot before I went mad.

When I'm asked how much my dog cost me, I always say a million because that's how much she would take to replace - however it still would not be enough!

awwwwww!!! :D
(Gwennie's a Lucky gal' :D she's got a mum in a 'million' too! ;) )
