Topic Dog Boards / Health / Plaque-off anybody?
- By bunty williams [gb] Date 23.04.06 17:05 UTC
Has anybody heard of a product called 'plaque off' ?
I've just been doing a search to see if there's anything else I can do to help keep my girls teeth in good nick and found this product made in Sweden. It's (i think) a powder that's added to the food.
I already brush their teeth although Ellie the older of the two isn't keen and it's sometimes a bit of a struggle.

If anyone knows about this or any other breakthroughs in dental hygiene please let me know.

I've tried various toothpastes and dental chews but find nothing cleans their teeth like a fresh knuckle bone :D

Plaque-Off is the best thing I've ever tried.  Used the homeopathic tablets, bones, toothpaste etc. etc. and Plaque-off was the only thing that has worked.  Lastar had really badly stained teeth when he came over here, he was a working dog, used to dive for bricks etc under water so they were chipped and plaque had got into the chips.  Within 3 weeks of using Plaque-Off he had pearly white teeth.

I'd definitely recommend it.  All the other treatments didn't even touch his teeth and i tried them for much longer!

Pity humans can't use it too then - gonna cost me £250 to have mine whitened :eek::eek:

 Thanks 4 that ... It's not so much plaque but the colour - I'd like them to be whiter.  Think i might order some to try ... much cheaper than the dentist anyways
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 23.04.06 21:27 UTC
Yep you can get it from health shops for humans :d

I went to a seminar on AI last year, sponsored by Plaque Off. The salesman spoke about it for half an hour, then offered us to buy at reduced price. Got two small jars, that lasted a long time due to the small amount given per day. It's made from sea-weeds (sorry don't know the apropriate term for it) and is sprinkled on top of the dogs' food. It also comes in tablets for humans. They are more costly, though, so the salesman suggested to sprinkle the doggy version on a sallad or cereal insted of buying the tablets.

One thing to be aware of is that dogs with hypothyreosis (low / no production of thyroid hormones) should be careful if using Plaque Off. It can interfere with the medication.
I can't really say it made a lot off difference on my dogs, but many of the breeders at the seminar used it already, and could tell about its' good effects.  My dogs have plenty of bones and always a big hard doggy-bisquit last thing before going to bed, and this has worked well for my dogs over the years. Might have noticed a difference if tartar was a real problem for us.

I tried it for about 9 months and it had absolutely no effect whatsoever on my dog's teeth.
- By Schip Date 24.04.06 09:16 UTC
I have used it on my dogs since crufts and sure enough it's the best thing I've tried yet and would highly recommend it even on the veteran pom it's making a difference, I can now just run my finger over his teeth and the tartar falls away and on the schips its cleaned their teeth right up.

I've also used it myself as I take steroids and am on antibiotics a lot that discolour my teeth and I am starting to see an improvement in their colouration, it won't help with the cracking as that's a calcium issue with the steroids but at least they're whiter and less stained from the drugs than they were before, my dentist poo poohed the idea but has now changed his attitude towards the tablets and is doing some research of his own.

Same here, bones and raw veg seem to do the trick better than plaque off!

Hi, I have a 9 month old german shepherd with beautiful white teeth, but obviously I want to keep them that way, and I have just bought some of the logic toothpaste as I noticed you can also use it on cats and I like products that i can use on both my cat (due next week!) and dog. Can I ask, how often do you use the Logic toothpaste on your 9 month old? Also, I presume it is fine as a preventative?
Thanks x

Plaque Off is tghe best thing I've ever used. Love it.
They even do a similar product for humans although haven't used it or know anyone who has used it.
- By michelled [gb] Date 24.04.06 12:00 UTC
i use it! its good!
- By LucyD [gb] Date 24.04.06 20:32 UTC
I've been trying it for a few weeks now, not much improvement yet though. :-( I also brush their teeth about once a week.
- By tisha [gb] Date 25.04.06 15:29 UTC
i use the logic every morning after she as had her brush
- By spanishwaterdog [gb] Date 25.04.06 15:39 UTC
Maybe it's good for dogs with severe plaque rather than dogs that may have discoloured teeth.  After using it on Lastar when he came from Spain and I doubt never had his teeth brushed I couldn't of asked for anything better.  His teeth are almost perfect now except from where he used to retrieve bricks etc from underneath the water and they are a bit chipped :d

i bought plaque off at crufts and have been using it on my cocker spaniel ever since. i think its great and its really freshened his breath too.  before, i could hardly bear to have his face anywhere near mine because of hius stinky breath, but ive definately seen a great improvement since using plaque off. i would deffinately recommend it (i think you can use it on cats too)

Thanks everyone!
The logic tooth gel stuff arrived today so they've both had their first dose. Think I'll definately be ordering some plaque off too.
Their teeth are pretty good really, although the older dog does seem ,just recently, to get more tartar developing and because she has a dislike to having her teeth brushed, it's the back ones that seem to be the worst.
hopefully there'll be some improvement.

Where do you get PLaque off? Ihave asked at various pet shops and they have never heard of it.
- By Cava14Una Date 28.04.06 06:21 UTC

Ordered it on-line at 7.30am on Wednesday morning and postie delivered it at 7.55am yesterday and I'm in Scotland:eek:
- By marguerite [gb] Date 28.04.06 08:49 UTC
Thank you, have added this to my favourites and will check it later on.
- By JaneG [gb] Date 28.04.06 15:12 UTC
You can also buy it on ebay, sealed 60gm tubs for 5.99 plus 1.40 postage - that's the cheapest I've seen so far :)
- By michelled [gb] Date 29.04.06 11:14 UTC
mine dont have plaque just stained teeth, they are defintally whiter!!!!
- By Jetstone Jewel [ca] Date 29.04.06 21:10 UTC
The Vet is amazed at how clean my 13 year old Lab's teeth are and I've never cleaned them.  I think maybe it's due to the sticks she chews.  Luckily she chews and spits, very little is swallowed.  I also put Oxyfesh in the drinking water.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 13.05.06 22:05 UTC
I don't know if it does anything to clean their teeth, but I bought some on the offchance because my oldest won't let me scrape her teeth like the others do. Within days her breath has become pleasant again, and there's no fear of passing out through being gassed while giving her a cuddle! :)
- By Isabel Date 13.05.06 22:08 UTC
That's excellent. How do you teach a dog to gargle? ;)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 13.05.06 22:10 UTC
No idea, because I can't gargle either!

Silly you! :p Plaque off is seaweed crumbs (not for use on animals with thyroid problems) which you sprinkle on their food. :)

"Pop"  There goes my mental picture :D
