Sorry can't help.  I kept my 2 clients in full coat, with just the stuff underneath that you couldn't see removed..

Have a look at this, it's of a dog in the USA.

I do something very similar, with a 3F Oster blade, so the legs and Tutu are a bit shorter. I'm not a trained groomer, so I do my best with the tools available. Mine look OK, for the woods and fields, but I wouldn't pay up, if they came back from the groomers looking like they do.

I have no problem if you trim your own dogs like this to keep them comfortable and tidy Dawn, but I'd be horrified if anyone paid good money for a groomer to clip their dog to look like that!!

LOL  you'd have apoplexy if you saw my lot Val:eek:, but they are happy as larks dashing through the mud on a daily basis:cool:. I have left one in glorious full coat, and she is more work than all the others put together.

No I wouldn't Dawn, becauce you keep a number and give them all good dog lives! :)  But when people buy one as a pet, and then can't be bothered to groom, then yes, I do get cross, as I do when the owners have paid good money to get a bad job.

Emily, how about leaving the length where it shows but clipping off the insides of the legs, under the arms, under the tummy but leaving a fringe at the sides so that when it walked down the street it looked like an American?  I also wouldn't take it on if they didn't commit to coming every 8 weeks - there's no point!

Had a look at the pic Dawn found, probably it did not help that she is not a great specimen of the breed, and it does nothing for any yankee ot have its topknot clipped right off.  It also seems strange that the "Tutu" is left so high over her back legs.  And I agree that her feet need a lot more trimming!  Dawn is being much too modest abouther gang, they certainly look a hwole lot smarter than this :)

the owner wanted dog all shaved off told her it would look horrible so i said about a short pet trim that i normaly do to american cockers but she wants to c a pic she used to keep the dog in full coat took me ages to do before but then i did not c her for ages and when i saw the dog next it was completely saved i was gutted im not willing to shave him off the pic nursey is simular to what i do but useally do the legs a bit shorter  and i dont take the top knot off and the legs are blended alot more

she used to keep the dog in full coat took me ages to do before but then i did not c her for ages and when i saw the dog next it was completely saved

Then I'd send her back to the sheep shearer if that's what she wants!

PS And the feet need to be bigger to balance in nursey's picture. :)

i know but it was her mother who sent him to a sheep shearer when she was looking after the dog

OK then you are prepared to do him again IF she wants him to look like a pet American. :)  If she wants him shave, which is what she asked for, then back to where she took him before!

Your work is your advertising Emily and what you send out onto the street is what you will get more of through your door! :D

I'm trying to encourage you to be different from the rest Emily, so that people will travel and pay for your superior service! :D

There might be something helpful here or here.

Tell her if she doesn't like it you'll do it shorter and not charge the extra time perhaps? I know you're trying to make a living, but I bet she'd be ok with him left a bit fluffy, and like someone said you can clip the inside bits to prevent knotting. My website has pictures of my George in his 'natural puppy trim' - it's a bit longer than what you're probably looking for, but that's as long as his hair ever grows. I will have major trouble when I get started grooming and someone wants me to clip off their Cavalier - I think I will offer to do it with thinning scissors to tidy the feathering pretty short, and clip insides of legs / behind ears etc, and hope they like it!!

Good point. :) Speaking as someone who detests the look of a shaven dog, if you can slightly shorten over-long feathering and thin the rest, it'd still look like a respectable dog and not a caricature of the breed.

is this of any use  http://www.groomingsmarter.com/Basic%20cocker%20grooming.html click on where it says ears ect at the sides and its got a pet clip too

Interestigly my freinds who used to groom for money to keep their horses (did it for over 20 years) had a grooming book that showed what each breed should be like.

When they got people wanting a shave job they would offer to do it as it should be but a bit shorter or easier, and offer a full clip if they didn't like it.  They hardly had anyone unhappy with what they did so they rarely clipped a dog right off except in neglect cases from people with a rescue.
