I read in our Parish magazine that the local WI were discussing their "policy on breeding dogs" this week:eek:  Now I was not aware that this has anything to do with the WI:confused: & as I am unable to get hold of our local lady I wondered if there were any members out there who could enlighten me as to what this policy actually says?

Can't imagine Sam:confused: Be SURE to let us know what you find out!!

Ooooooooooh !!!!!
Blimey!!! crass bit of stereotyping flying around here!!
Im with PoloAussie on this one, I think times have moved on and those of you who've mocked are actaully the ones stuck in the olden days and not the -only good for making chutney- WI. ;)
The average age of the Kensington and Chelsea branch for example is 36!!!
Now its not my bag baby!!! but I have friends who are and I can tell you they are all proffessionals (blue stockings!!) and with their combined stature and intellegence Im quite happy for them to debate and formulate standards.
    >not aware this had anything to do with the WI<
erm... women!
we run the households, lets face it...really the kids arnt getting a dog til mum says so!! most households have pets.
so I do think its pertinent for the WI to uphold standards and with the current trend for cross breeds being sold for large amounts of money under the hoodwink of being a 'new' breed or 'designer' breed. I think the more people who get out there and educate the Householders, and the people parting with this money, the better!!

Perhaps the WI have discovered a way to supercede the need for breeding by crocheting their own dogs??
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 21.04.06 11:54 UTC
And stuffing them with jam. :D
- By Brainless [gb] Date 21.04.06 12:04 UTC
The only time I ahve ever had any dealings with them is at the snack shop in the hospitals I have visited.

If they are interested in the issue then people in dogs with sense and knowlege need to educate them.

Isn't that the WRVS that help in the Hospitals?????

I used to be the Secretary for our Branch in Scotty Land and it is far removed from Jam or Chutney...believe me!!!

I'm only just catching up on Champdogs, after having been away on the Isle of Man for a week or so - thought some of you might be interested in this link :-  http://www.womens-institute.org.uk/campaigns/index.shtml

The WI is an excellent campaigning ground for women to start on ;)
