Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / hip scores taking ages?
- By kao kate [gb] Date 17.04.06 15:13 UTC
is anyone else finding hip scores are taking ages at the moment? they seem to be taking 6 weeks plus!
- By ridgielover Date 17.04.06 16:03 UTC
A friend's bitch was done 5 weeks ago - the wait is terrible isn't it.  I'll make you feel very envious, I once got a result back 6 days after the x-ray was taken.  I thought the vet had made a mistake when she called to say the results were in!

The actually scoring has never bothered me it's the wait whilst my lovely hip scoring vet develops the plates, she's rarely more than a point out so waiting for results isn't a problem Must book Rjj in for his present on the 2nd of May Lucky lad ! my first set of X rays for 14 years !

Got my results back a couple of weeks ago it took 5 weeks but some friends that had theirs done the week before had results back in 3 weeks depends when the board sits i suppose

Mine took 4 weeks at the start of the year, but it took them 8 weeks to cash the cheque.

Mine were done just over 6 weeks ago.  E-mailed the BVA and they were scoring them last Wednesday, still haven't received the results at the vets though!

On their website it says that they are doing them in 3 weeks, but I think that they are changing their website now that I mentioned this :d

Aggghhh, it seems such a long time. He's had his done in Spain but I had to have them redone over here.  Unfortunately I don't think that Spain's idea of excellent is mine but hopefully they are in the breeds average.  The wait is killing me, it was bad enought getting them re-done when he's nearly 8, but the wait is driving me round the bend :d

His results still haven't arrived!!  I'm hoping that no news is good news!  Usually they send them first class but it seems as though they are taking a while to come through still.

This last 7 weeks has felt the longest ever, I've never been this anxious before aggggghhhhhh  !!!

I am absolutely fuming, not only have I waited for 7 weeks for the BVA scores to come through but now my vet is away on holiday and the vet working for him won't give me the scores!!:mad:

I'm getting so annoyed here at the moment and am ready to put a right complaint in at the vets.  It's only the score that I want and if there's any problems I can discuss this with my vet at some other point.

Pmed you.

Have you rung the kc? that's what I've done in the past. I believe they get the score first.
- By susantwenty? [gb] Date 20.04.06 21:03 UTC
It might take a while but it's well worth the wait:cool:
- By Fillis Date 20.04.06 22:59 UTC
Surely the vet hasto give them to you? They are yours as you paid for them

I'm interested by this thread. Why would your vet give them to you? Personally I have always been asked through the years to Provide a large SAE and then they come straight to me from the vets the minute they arrive.

I always find it most offensive that they go to the vets anyway first, I've paid, its my personal information and so on, I merely employed my vet to take the xrays and sign a form! What if, for some reason, i didn't wish my vet to know the result? sigh!

Anyway, this time round things were very slow on a couple of youngsters. I rang the BVA first after 9 weeks or so. They could tell me when my hips and elbows had been scored and that they had been sent to the KC and my vets but not what the results were. That was 'confidential'.

So I rang the KC and they were most helpful. They had lost one of the dogs elbow scores (not helpful - grin) but gave me the hip results quite freely as its published info in the BRS. They won't give out anything not published in the BRS these days, even to the person it concerns. My call prompted them to hunt about for my elbow score (god knows if I hadn't called and asked!) and thankfully found it (!?!) and gave that to me to over the telephone.
Might be worth a quick call on Monday.

I get really cross that after paying for them they won't let me have the x-rays.  What use are they to the Vet?  I paid £170 altogether to get Lexi scored last year and I can't see why I can't ahve the plates.  I might want to send them to get them graded under another system like the OFA.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 22.04.06 18:27 UTC
My old vet wouldn't let me have them either and as he'd take 3 or 4 at the time one with me wouldn't have mattered.  My new vet is great and let's me have one now.

By the way, I ended up getting the results eventually after telling a few white lies :d  My usual vet was away on holiday and the other vet wasn't happy to deal with it but she did in the end.

We have our plates as well.  It must be down to the individual surgery but ours were posted direct to us anyway.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 23.04.06 13:20 UTC
I have used at least 5 different Vets in Bristol and none would let me have the plates since 1990 :(
- By Moonmaiden Date 23.04.06 13:58 UTC
I have all my dogs plates & they go the vets first & as soon as she gets them she rings me & then sends them on. As I've said before the score has never been more or less than one pint of the score Jill has estimated so I have no nasty shocks when I get them back

When she X rayed Echo, our import with the perfect hips, she was so excited she asked immediately if she could copy the plates as they were the best she had every done. The BVA now use then for training the panelists & also the SV in Germany. They are also used in most of the vet schools as an example of the perfect canine hip formation(not just  the hip joint but the whole pelvic region !)

I agree Di I recieved mine throught the post direct from my vet without a phone call he told me after the X-Ray if I had any questions to ring him.
I was happy with the results so had no need to contact him.
