Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / BArking when leaving the house

Hi all
Since her last season Freya has became a nightmare when leaving the house. She continuously barks for about 50m until we get to the alleyway. Any suggestions on what to do. Yesterday i tried the not letting her through the door if she barked and after 4 times decided i couldn't put Molly through this as she was being good. I am going to take her out on her own this evening and woud love some ideas.
Thanks

Definitely walk them separately. As you say, it's not fair on Molly to be 'punished' (stopping and starting) when she's walking nicely. So take her out first for a nice walk then return for Freya's training walk; only moving forward when she's quiet. Good luck - you're going to get very fit!

Hi mollymoto :-)

Apart from the stop and start training and seperate walks would she perhaps carry something in her mouth to stop the barking, perhaps a ball, spare lead or a favourite bone until she gets out of the habit.

Well if that doesn't work with Freya may just apply that method to OH to keep him quiet when shes barking LOL :)
Thanks for the suggestin will take her fav toy next time.

I have had to wakl Pteppic on his own because he would do the same th ing - well nearly, he wasnt barking, he was SCREAMING.....

So far i havent had to do anything specifically to shut him up, just taking him on training walks on his own, stop start stuff to stop him pulling me over and he is concentrating so hard on being a Good Puppy, that he isnt screaming his little noggin off any more.

We have now got to where we can take Pteppic and one of the others out as well, and again, no screaming...... :D

Hi
I have had a problem recently with barking (barking beardies) LOL it only occurred when going out into the garden mainly in the morning ...I now have this under control I didnt open the door until puppy (now 17m) was quiet ...I used 'quiet' and pointed my finger if she continued I turned my back when she stopped barking I would turn around and proceed to open the door  each time she barked I stopped repeated above ...at last it has clicked but took a few days she stills barks with excitement at the prospect of going into the garden but shuts up immediately after 'quiet'
you must be consistent.
