Hi
I feed my two on raw meat and bones but they dont get any veg which worries me. They wont touch it.
This morning tried blending a raw carrot and mixing it with there minced tripe. They walked in took one look and walked of again.
What is the best way to get some veg in to them? Does it have to be raw? and what type of veg is best what about fruit?
As if I dont have enough problems trying to get the kids to eat 5 a day without worrying about the dogs to lol

Hi Wendy
I shred the veg I give, then pulp it in the food processor and mix it up well - all raw. I usually feed 4 veg at least, usually including carrot and cabbage and seasonal veg. I then mix it in well with their mince, if that's what they are having. Mine will eat the veg alone, though. In one book, it suggested adding a small amount of veg to the mix, then gradually increasing the volume as they get used to it. Mine all queue up round me when I'm doing their veg - they love them!

Hi
I put it in the blender and added a tiny bit of water to make it move.
I should of added a little bit to there food rather than all of it. But it didnt look that much to me compared to the tripe.
What quantities do you feed and how often?
I have just given some of the mixture to my pups for their lunch and they loved it.
Anything I should avoid. I know onions anything else. I will carry on trying what about fruit?

Hi Wendy
I would recommend a book by Kymythy Schultz, it gives suggested amounts for different size animals, I can't remember the title, but I'm sure someone will. I give my RRs about 1 1/2 serving spoons worth with about 1 lb meat for their evening meal, and chicken wings for breakfast. In fact, I've just received my first order from Landywoods, been meaning to try them for ages, and I've got them some rib bones for a change. I'm sure they'll love them - but I think they can have those outside!

Hi
Think I have the meat sussed. Blooming Tescos have stopped doing chicken wings though which is a pain.
It is just the veg I am having problems with.

They still sell the fresh ones although they have stopped the frozen. £1.20 for 12 seems to be about average pack.

Sainsburys do a bag of frozen mixed chicken pieces - wings, legs etc which is about £1.50. Not sure what the weight is but its a pretty large bag. I haven't tried it yet as the freezer is full but will definitely be getting a bag when Harley has eaten what we have already.

Hi
Will look at that one to.
Tesco do something simlar but it doesnt have wings in.
Farmfoods can be really good to for chicken. I was getting a bag of bits for a pound. Did a few feeds.
They also had liver 5 packs for £5 but dont have that anymore.

I get lambs heart and pigs liver at tesco for around £1 a pack as well so is quite good value, my butcher sells me breast of lamb for £1.50 each and that seems pretty reasonable.
Sorry to hijack the thread but at what age is it ok to give dogs raw or cooked meat? Also I read somewhere that they shouldn't have chicken bones do they eat the bones in the chicken wings too?

I wean my puppies onto raw meat at 3 weeks of age, and they have it most days for the rest of their lives.
As for bones, it's only
cooked bones which must
never be given. Raw bones are generally fine (though they can sometimes break their teeth on them), even raw chicken bones.
Thanks for the quick reply

Hi
Success they ate some spring greens and carrot mixed in with their rabbit tonight
Had to blend it to a liquid though and any lumps were sucked and spat out.

They might like the taste of parsnips as they are fairly sweet tasting. Try them blitzed up with some carrot, and as suggested previously, don't give too much to start with. Just build it up gradually.
