hi, i am thinking of taking loui to gun dog training, can anyone tell me if they need to be of a certain age, he goes to obediance training and has gone into intermediate allready, also does anyone know of any gun dog training in the dorset /weymouth area. Can anyone tell me of any retriever clubs that i could join prefferably that are local and that meet up. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT SHOWING AND I AM INTERESTED IN ALL ASPECTS OF THIS AS WELL, WE TOOK LOUi to a fun dog show and entered him in the puppy class (he was just over six mths) and the judge said he will be a lovely dog when he grows up, i am not sure if this was a compliment or not, p.s. he did not get placed. p.s. sorry about caps in middle. lynne

Lynne.

Are you planning to work your dog to the gun or just GWT's?

As a general contact try:

South Western GR Club.
Ms.Coward on 01425 653146
who hopefully will be able to point you in the right direction. If you don't get the answers you require get back to us and we will find you some more contact numbers.

Hi Goldilover, most gundog clubs will have a puppy section and will advise you on age limits, but if the basic obedience is already there you have a head start. I started gundog training just over two years ago and became completely hooked - so be warned - it can take over your life. But seriously, I love it and so do the dogs. There is a good trainer near you at Wareham. His name is Walter Harrison. If you go into a website: www.dog-n-field.co.uk/wogd.htm you will find him listed under trainers. Also the United Retriever Club have groups all over the country. There is a Hampshire and South West area. The secretary is: Mrs.Taylor Tel 01425 655455. I'm sure you will find both Walter and the URC very helpful. There is also a lovely gentleman called John who I have met through a website and he will give you lots of good advice I am sure. Good luck, you sound as if you've got a lovely dog.
