I always thought that rescue's made sure that bitches were spayed and checked up on such things.
My poor neighbour who has an entire dog who is absolutely no trouble has just told me that yet again she has been accosted by a GR, which is now in season and being allowed to run free all over the place, with the owner so far away he can not even see where his own dog is.
Three times this dog has appeared from nowhere and jumped all over her dog, her dog obviously then tries to get friendly (what dog wouldn't :-D) and she is being forced to lead her dog to drag him away, her poor dog is not getting a walk or free run because of this inconsiderate owner.
She bumped into another dog walker whilst trying to get her dog home and was told that it is a rescue the guy has had for 6 months and the owner is extremely incompetant. This walker advised the man to lead his dog, but obviously he has ignored her. The GR followed her home and did not leave until she shut her front door.
I have told her to report the owner to rescue, but no-one knows which one, I am sure the rescue would be horrified.
No doubt this silly man will fall to pieces if the bitch has pups.
Vent over.
OMG

How inconsiderate of the man. When Freya is in season (she has had her last due to be spayed in june) we don't take her out as it isn't fair and there are a lot of off lead dogs were we live. She gets extra play on runs in the garden. Infact we tend to do the same with Molly as the sent will probably transferred to her to even though shes spayed.
I can't believe that some dog owners are so selfish and inconsiderate.
I hope your friend gets some joy with the rescue centres.

There's an in season bitch in our park at the moment - owner at least has the sense to put it on lead if she sees a dog coming, but that's not much consolation for people with keen stud dogs!!
I also thought rescues would normally have the bitch speyed before rehoming. However, I did once have a bitch through golden retriever rescue and she wasn't speyed although it was part of the adoption contract that I had her speyed ASAP, which I did. Don't think they ever followed up on this though.
This is clearly an irresponsible owner and if you feel the dog might have been adopted through golden retriever rescue, your neighbour could try contacting her local rescue co-ordinator with whatever information she has about the dog and owner. Hopefully, they will then follow this up. This is the rescue co-ordinators list

Hi
Not all rescues neutar, it really depends on the one you go to.
I never understand people that walk in season bitches. My bitches never leave the house when in season. If they do then it is in the car and to the middle of no were for a walk.
A friend of mine walked her bitch every day while in season and although she was lucky she never met another off lead dog I couldnt understand her taking the risk. I have had dogs hanging around my doorstep before and it is not pleasant.

There is another thread running at the moment on this subject :) My bitches would go stir crazy if they could not get out nor would I want them to go without excercise for maybe a month if I was planning a litter, the loss in muscle tone would be very hard to make up during gestation in time for the birth. If you are lucky enough to live in an area where people see owning an entire male dog as a responsibility too it is not hard to work together I have had no problems
at all in the 17 years I have lived her with several unspayed bitches. No I doubt that is very consoling for those with keen stud dogs but then its not very consoling for the bitch owner to bump into one of those either :) but you just have to accept that is what owning an entire animal entails and to be honest these day when most dogs are pets and mostly neutered it doesn't happen that often does it. It just means you both get your dogs on a lead, sigh and think well it's only for 2 or 3 weeks even if we cross pass regularly.
Yes, Isabel that was my consolation for her too, that at least it will only be for another couple of weeks, if that long. I can see this poor bitch, who probably has no papers, hip or eye tests ending up with pups, from guess the dad! As there are quite a few entire males around here and she is desperately seeking a mate, I doubt the owner would even worry that she has gone missing for 20 mins or so. It is very sad as she is such a lovely friendly dog, shame the owner is so irresponsible. :-(
Thanks for the link, I have passed it onto her. :-)

I can fully sympathise with you on this, in our local dog walking fields,(lots of us meet up) there was a lady who has 2 bitches one of which, a boxer was in season and running free. £ of us with entire dogs had to lead ours up and freddies owner had to take him home, he was howling and launching himself, (WSS) and the bloke walks with a stick. Merlin wasnt too bad as he began to strut around but if she was close he would pull and poor old harry was sat in one spot howling his head off, his owner couldnt move him until she went 45mins later. That lady came back everyday like this so we all changed our meeting time for a bit later for a few weeks. It was crazy that she was just running loose like that
