Just out of curiousity ... I work part time (3 hours a day) so that I don't have to leave the dogs alone for longer than necessary.  But to supplement this I make jewellery which I sell on ebay.  Ultimately I'd like to quit the boring office job and work from home full time.  Do other dog owners have jobs which they do from home to fit in with their canine housemates or am I the only one?  Interested to hear your views.

I work part time too, in term time, 12.5 hours a week and I'm also a bit of a secretary/general dogs body for my dads new buisness! I'm lucky that I still live at home so usually my mam is at home with the dogs but as Ido is really my responsibility as far as training and exercise is concerned I do need to work around him. I also need my weekends free for showing..thats my excuse anyway!
I would love to be a driving instructor eventually but thats not for certain plus I haven't had my licence long enough yet....3 years in September. Dogs are time demanding, IMO, and as it was my idea to get 2 more after Chloe I feel I need to do my bit to help look after them and if that includes my job then so be it!

My job does fit around my dog since I'm either at home or on location where I can often take Nips with me. However, I still think it is important for him to be able to be left at home for sensible periods of time so he is!  I certainly wouldn't want a conventional job or a 9-5 existence but I know I'm lucky not to have to make that choice. I wouldn't say that my life is totally ruled by Nipper's needs but he is a big influence on some of the decisions I make.

We've waited 10 years to get a dog because we both had full-time jobs which often took us abroad and we couldn't entertain leaving a dog for any length of time.

We were extremely lucky in a set of circumstances last year which now means my hubby runs his own business from home and can pick and choose his hours (he's a web designer so can play all day and work from 5pm to 2am if he wants too.....  I'm a stay at home Mum, but help out for an hour or two a day at a local primary school when they are short staffed.  So all of us can be around all day for our puppy.

When we go on holiday Earl wont even have to go into a kennels as my parents in the next village will have him at their house.  We've even had our neighbour pop over to ask if they can take Earl for walks when he's older!!!

Even when my daughter starts school in 3 years I will not go back to work full-time, it's the part-time life for me from now on..... :-)

I work full-time, about 50 hours a week but I work from home in the afternoons. I waited years to get a dog because my hours were prohibitive so working from home in the afternoon was a great solution. I'm marketing communications so boring office job for me too.

I work parttime and although I could do with the money I wont take on any more work when it is offered as I would rather be pottering around with the dog......

Hi,

I've worked really hard to set up my own business over the last 5 years so that I could work from home and be in the position to have a dog again.  All the scrimping and saving and no social life has been worth it as I now have a job that I love and a dog that I love even more.  Still scrimping though as now any spare money I have goes on the dog instead of back into the business :-) Although I work from home and spend a lot of time with her I have made sure from the begining that she got used to havng time on her own as I do feel that's important, but I don't feel comfortable about leaving her alone for more than a few hours at a day.
