Our new puppy comes home on tuesday he has been weaned onto beta puppy complete food, but our older boy is on Nature diet, we`d like to wean the pup onto this too (well the puppy version for now) when should we start doing this? As soon as he comes home or should we let him settle into the family first before we start thinking about changing his diet

I'd definitely keep him on the same food that he's used to for at least a fortnight after you get him home. There will be enough changes in his life (no mum or littermates, new surroundings, new smells, strange dog, strange people, different water, strange noises etc etc) all of which can cause upsets, without adding to them by changing his diet.

Is it only for convienience? what does your breeder say as they are the best to know their own lines and what they do best on.

I have 3 dogs and 1 is on different and its no less hassle.
If you want to do it then i'd really wait a couple of weeks then gradually introduce the nature diet but what suits one may well not suit them all.

mygirl, we werent really thinking for convenience just our older dog was weaned onto the same complete food and after a while went completely off it, he`d never really held any weight on it either, then we changed him onto nature diet and havent looked back, he polishes off every meal and it a great weight for his size
If pup does well on the beta then I`d quite happily keep him on this was just thinking he may enjoy something a bit more meaty like our older one

Have spoken to our breeder about it and she feeds her older dogs on beta complete and mixes it with sardines  etc her dogs have done well on it, but she feels our boy would have no problem switching to nature diet
