Iwould like to ask Border Terrier Breeders if they have had a similar aged bitch that may require an operation to remove the womb if this is to be recomended at this age.

Has any one had a similar problem was it successful ?

Don't own or breed BT's but if the infection will not respond to medication you have little choice and the sooner the better. If she is in good general health she should be fine. Jackie

So sorry to hear about your bitch.

My 11 year BT bitch had to have this operation last year, and came through it very well, but she was in a very fit condition at the time.

A number of years ago I had a JR bitch who was 14 and had the op and she lived for another 2 years.

To be honest Hugh, you have very little choice in this if it is a pyometra her best chance of survival is the operation.

I will keep everything crossed for you and your old lady.

Regards

Jayne

I had the same with a 12yo Lab bitch many years ago, after a week of not responding to treatment we were given overnight to make a decision either way, we were warned that she may not survive the op, she did and lived for a further 2 years. Ingrid

My Terv bitch had a pyo at 10 and a half, she had the op and was fine, lived a healthy and active life til nearly 16.

Best wishes

Hugh, my deerhound had a hysterectomy for a pyo aged 12. She was bouncing around in a couple of days and she is still on the go aged 14. As others have said, you don't have much choice if this is pyometra.

Hugh, don't hesitate to get the operation done, if its Pyometria it can kill your bitch, I nearly lost one to pyo and she is still going strong, my older mongrel had this operation at 12years of age and lived until a week off her 18th birthday.
