I need to get this off my chest,so i thought i'd come and bore you all with the details.....
I spotted an advert tonight for a stud dog,no kc reg,no pedigree,no health testing etc, anyway i took it upon myself to send this person an email saying why she shouldn't put this dog out to stud,it was in my opinion a very poor example of the breed and did not conform to the breed standard.
I just hope that they will listen, somehow i doubt it.

Well Sally, without seeing the dog in question, and being a breed expert, it's impossible to say that it is a poor example of the breed, or that it does not conform to the KC breed standard. So that was not, perhaps, the best thing to say. It's likely to be true, but unless you know the dog personally, how do you know?
It might have been better to ask what the dogs hip score is, or what his eye test results were. Or maybe how his progeny have fared in the breed rings, or working field.
A telling off is only likely to get someones back up.

But surely when it has no paperwork, and is to tall and the only reason to put him out to stud was because he has a loverly temperament to pass on to it's offspring,i know a photo isn't ideal but it was awful.

The best thing to do is to sound as if you're interested in him and do as Dawn says - ask about his test results etc. Then when they say he hasn't been tested say sorry, but you couldn't
possibly use an untested dog, that the risks of prosecution are too great, and put the phone down. It'll get them thinking ...

that may well be the case, which of course is bad
but is it really any of your business?
hopefully if he is so awful no one will want to use him
I know it's probably none of business in fact it isn't,but these sort of ads really rub me up the wrong way, especially when there are so many in rescue, and they are used by the wrong sort of people for am image thing.
Oh well i suppose all we can try to do is educate people.

Of course it is your business!
It is EVERY responsible breeder's business to call this folks out. To speak out!
Whining about rescue and poor breeding practices does not help. Sending a lasar beam down on those who do the wrong thing things is helpful.

You didn't say in your first post, that you had seen a photograph of the dog, but you're right, a picture isn't much to go on. I just think that if I were complaining about something like this, I would focus on different details, than appearance in a photograph. Health tests being one, for sure, and lack of KC reg being another.
Put it this way, I think I might have pretended to be interested, and asked what the health test results were, and attempted to get into a discussion about the ancestry. Baffled them with my superior knowledge if you like. It would provide them with food for thought.

never thought of doing that, need to engage my brain before i type
sally35, your heart was in the right place, but to be honest you have probably wasted your time and breath on such a person.
Puppy buyers and bitch breeders are the people who need the education, this type of stud breeder already know their dog is not to standard and are just trying to earn money. The only bitch owner they will attract is someone of the same like. No decent bitch owner would touch the dog with a barge pole.
So I guess they would not care two hoots what you think anyway.
As breeders we need to educate the people who buy our puppies to make sure they do everything above board and to the highest standards those who choose to breed anyway are doing nothing illegal (at the moment anyway unless things change) so Jeangenies way would have been more appropriate as it is not up to us or anyone else to judge them or tell them what to do or what we really think. This is still a free country and none of us are Gods. People always learn more through gentle education rather than a telling off.
i have read the threads but interested into knowing what breed your talking about sally ? (if possible) hope it aint a toy poodle !
i miss read the post !!!.........ok its nearly 1 am and i had a drink and thought u meant u used the stud .............anyway whats the breed in question >
It's a staffie, since found out it has been used at stud

And apparently pups will be due in june, god some people are unbelieveable,i explained that dlrc was of no use, then she went on to say what's the use in kc reg papers.I give up!

you really cant help some people
