i have read on here a few times that adult male dogs are sometimes scared of puppys, mine doesnt seem comfortable with them as they move fast and approach him, given the chance he will try to curtail their movements. This seems odd to me? anyone else experienced this?

Very normal - males don't generally have a lot to do with puppies and find them confusing. Many adult human males are awkward with children too ... ;)

my two males love puppies they would get in the whelping box with the pup and when they got older they would lick them clean

Ah but few males would ever be around very young pups after leaving their own litter.  the sharp teeth stage is usually the first kind they ever meet, and not surprisngly fnd them frightening.  I have found young bitches not that comfortable with pups once they are beyond puppyhood themselves, though my won that have been around litters are not bothered.

I wonder how much of it may be an innate fear that Mum will turn up and box their ears for messing with the youngsters :)

Lastar was amazing with the two litters that we've had over here by him and I doubt in Spain that he would ever of seen any of his litters.  He cleaned them and everything and sat by them as if to say look at what I've done :d  Anton quite liked them but didn't clean them up like Lastar did.

My adult male dogs can cope with ONE pup, but with the exception of my young (2 ½) Golden male who LOVES babysitting, if they're faced with an entire litter they do rather get worried. :) The Golden though lies on his back  and you can just hear him saying "Come on little friends, all jump on uncle Simba!" and they all do. :D

Casper is petrified of our puppies!  I open the puppy pen gate and it is like a swarm of locusts coming through (there are 11) and Casper justs makes a run for it.  It was quite funny the other day when the very tiny runt of the litter (only a third the size of the other pups) ran accross the floor barking at Casper :)  Poor old Casper looked at me as if to say "get it away from me".

The other three bitches are all fine with the pups though, and will play with them gently and quite happily.

What really upsets my males is the puppies trying to feed off them

ROFLMAO ;)

All my male BC's have been terrified of puppies until they get their adult teeth & know the difference between the boys & girls ! It was quite funny to see the adults running away from tiny Cavalier puppies, they took themselves off up the garden to where the Cavaliers couldn't reach. When the puppies were older all the boys had who can pee the most competitions ;)

My GSDs have all been extremely tolerant of puppies irrespective of their sex

With the Cavaliers the older ones have been OK but the previous youngest has always taken ages to be ok, except for JD with Rjj(the BC) I think he recognized a kindred naughty spirit & he even initated play from day one

The Beardies well they just loved all dogs period & my Dazzler used to wash our puppy we bought in like a bitch ;)

My Beardie boy finds them very confusing.  He couldn't wait to get a look at them when they where born and waited for them to be brought to him so that he could inspect them.  Once they got on their feet properly and developed teeth he ran for the hills.  He is still very tolerant and shows no aggression toward the one we have kept or to the tiny Tibetan terror who is even smaller than his own puppy but definitely calls the shots.

The pups idea of play is hanging off his ears or tail while he drags them along and tries to get up high out of the way.

Nipper's older half brother tolerates puppies with a kind of desperate resignation. But he's far happier when they've gone to their new homes! And when Nips goes back to his breeder to be "dog-sat" his brother looks at me with an expression that clearly says "Promise you'll come back for it later? Please??" :D

One of mine was very worried by puppies at first - then i got Dilly and he was HORRIFIED, convinced that Dill was going to electrocute him or explode next to him or soemthing.

Then came Leela my neighbours dog who was fat and small and bouncy and clearly the devil incarnate (not wrong there), and he was slightly better with her, but still not at all happy with it.

Then came Pteppic, who instantly clapped eyes on Rocky and thought 'YOU... you are my IDOL ....i LOVE you......' and proceeded to worship the ground Rocky trod on - much to his horror..... but he isnt scared now, he's just plain old grumpygitdog!

My male, Ozzy is terrified of puppies too. When the pups come downstairs at 5 weeks he sits on the back of the sofa as its the furthest place he can get from them !! If they run at him or try to play with him he growls at them (never snaps or hurts them) and dives onto the sofa. He only starts to play and interact with them when they are about 8-9 weeks old
