Topic Dog Boards / General / looking for my dogs littermates
- By saomac [gb] Date 03.04.06 12:57 UTC
Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me out in finding information on my dogs littermates.  He is a long haired black german shepherd, he was born on the 19/04/2003, he was in a litter of 4, his KC name is Raggengill Black Argus, there were 3 boys and 1 girl in the litter. Looking for the names of the rest of the litter and who owns them.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The best person to ask would be his breeder, certainly for the names of the rest of the litter. You could also contact the KC and get a copy of the relevant breed records supplement; the letter and numbers after his name on the registration document will tell you which one/s (the transfer of ownership might be in the issue following the publication of the litter registration) you need.

Hi,

Can I be nosy and ask why you are trying to find them?

I only ask as last year I had a particular lady who was really interested in being in touch with my other pups owners I guess because she wanted to keep them all as one big happy family and watch all the siblings progressions as I do.

I would not give her the other pups owners info, but asked them all if they were interested in being in touch with her, and I have to say I got a resounding no, most of them thought it very strange and did not wish a relationship with her or my other pup at all.

So if this is the reason be aware that not everyone has the same feelings.

I don't think that the Kennel Club will give out the information that you require either, I would think it to be confidental. Your dogs breeder is the best person to get the information you require for whatever reason if he/she feels it appropriate.

The KC will be able to pass on details that are printed in the BRS (puppies names and names of new owners on transfer of registration) because that's in the public domain. Passing on addresses, however, would be forbidden under the Data Protection Act.

Thanks for letting me know how to get the names of them, I was only interested to find out their kennel club names and to find out how they were all getting on, and how they have grown, thanks to all:cool:

Thanks again, contacted the Kennel Club today and for a small fee they will send me the breed supplement and the transfer of ownership details, just curious to see how the rest of the litter turned out:cool:

You will only have the names the puppies have been transfered into, you won't have their contact detais as that is covered by the data protection act. You have to respect the fact that, although you may wish to contact the other owners, they may not want contact with you. Some will only keep minimal contact with their breeder, usually by the breeder chasing them, as once they have bought the puppy, it is theirs and they may not wish to talk to strangers.:)

Saomac,

 I'm shocked the breed supliment I understand, but the KC are sending you the transfer of ownership details too for your pups siblings.  I hope that you have posted that wrong, or I am reading it wrong, I think that is terrible if so.

Can you imagine how dog snatchers and dubious people could trace names and addresses of well bred lines and know the new owners and their addresses of  the pups. Please tell me I have misunderstood.  Even if it is just the name of the pups owners it is still terrible. And only information that the breeder and KC should have.

The BRS will show the names of the new owners (if they've got around to transferring ownership - many don't) but not the addresses. :) I've never known them give out an address that wasn't in the public domain.

I think you must be right Jeangenie:cool: When I read breeders supliment and transfer of ownership details I gave myself a heart attack. I think it was probably just the BRS. (I hope)

I agree; giving out addresses or phone numbers would be very dodgy.

Any show catalogue will list the names and addresses of owners and their dogs, so it's not very hard to get this info. Just attend a show.

That's not a lot of help if the dogs aren't shown! ;) :D Besides, having contact details printed is optional.

I NEVER allow my address to be printed in show catalogues, it's asking for trouble.
- By saomac [gb] Date 16.04.06 12:27 UTC
Hi you have read me wrong, the kennel club only shows up the new owners name, not their addresses!

Thats horrible Carrington :( Why wouldnt other owners of a litter want to see their pups brothers and sisters and compare their progression etc.? I organised a couple of puppy parties  with my dogs litter mates when she was a babe, some turned up and to be honest the 2 that didnt i wouldnt have wanted there anyway as they were a couple of misery gutses that couldnt for the life of them understand why anyone would be interested in seeing their dogs brothers and sisters! The pups had a blast and seemed to recognise eachother,so it was the misery gutses loss in the end :( I dont understand why anyone would think it strange to want to get their pups together. I would be interested to hear if anyone else here thinks this way and why? :)

I wouldn't mind knowing the progress of my dog's litter mates. However, the thing that would put me off big time is not knowing what the owners are like.  If you've ever had a person that has become a bit of a cling-on and consequently a nuisance then you guard your personal details carefully from people you don't know.
- By Carrington Date 16.04.06 13:45 UTC
Not a very nice way to think of your pups new owners Ktee, no-one is a misery guts for not wanting to stay in touch with the other owners.  You are looking at it entirely from a breeders point of view, I too welcome all my pups and owners back to my home but I am the breeder and they are happy to be in touch with myself.

However,  this particular lady wanted to meet the other owners, go out with them and keep in touch with them, this is very much as roz described that apart from having a dog from the same litter there is nothing else in common,  and it isn't something that others welcome, unless they hit it off immediately and become good friends.

As a breeder of course we stay in touch, and invite our pups and their owners on our premises, but no-one should be called a misery guts for not wanting to play happy families. :-(

I believe that Raggengill was the affix of the late Brian Plummer, who developed the plummer terrier. Possibly his wife or family have continued with the affix. I understand that he bred german shepherds (usually white), as well as other breeds.

My dog regularly meets and spends time with his brother and sister. His other sister lives in a nearby town and I'd like to get the whole litter together on their first birthday this August to do a photo-shoot of them. But while his breeder is a friend anyway to be honest, when it comes to complete strangers, I'd be delighted to see their pups but not to have a friendship forced on me by dint of the relationship the pups have with each other. I'd certainly not want to be described as a "misery-guts" just because I didn't want to socialise with people who in all other respects I might have nothing in common with!
