What is your breeder feeding him? That would be the sensible food to continue with until he is settled at least.
Different people have different opinions about what food you should give. Like the OP says, you should continue with what he was being fed for a week or so when he comes to you.
After that, I wouldn't feed him Pedigree, and I'm not sure what you mean by a "working hunter" food??
Personally, I would recommend Arden Grange or James Wellbeloved:

had a good old chat today found out alot about him, he's coming friday, and thats the only thing i hadnt asked was food, but i will 1st thing tomorow, i dont think theres a good chance of showing him, he was brought up to hunt and he was used as a sniffer dog, but im more than happy to have him as my pet and go trecking and clubs, i will be planning him to do some horse and hound work at my stable yard that will be kool thanx for your help

As the others have said, keep him on his breeders' food for a while whilst he settles in. I feed my dogs Arden Grange, it's an excellent food and they absolutely love it - I also recommend Burns as well, my brother's dog is on that - good value and good quality, no additives to cause problems.
It sounds like he is an adult rather than a pup, but as people have already said, it's sensible to keep him on the food he's used to, at least to begin with. Do you want to feed a dry complete, a wet food - tinned or packet, or a home made diet?
i will do thanx alot, then ill prob try that stuff ive sent off for a free sample
im not sure my other bitch is on a mix and tinned meat, my old gsd {not here now} was on meat, thats why im asking whats best as to the work he's doing
just found out he is already on arden grange food so thats kool she said its complete so does that mean i dont have to use meat or can i?

I find that the Arden Grange range are fine on theri own, but a little meat fed every now and then won't hurt as long as it isn't too much, unless the extra's are allso a balnced mix of ingredients.
I have found theri Prestige food excellent fro bitches in whelp, rearing pups and for picky eaters, and to return bitches to condition after a litter.
Witth a choice of 3 types of general adult food in Salmon, Chicken and Lamb variants, there si a good choice, and some people will ring the changes between these 3 mqaintenance varieties. There are also fods between these two.
I agree with what Brainless says about the Arden Grange Prestige - I feed this and it's an excellent food with 30% meat - far more than any other dry food on the market. :) If you want to feed a dry food but you're concerned most of them seem to be mostly rice, this is the one for you. :) I also feed their Lamb and that's great too.
What a lovely looking dogs i didn't know what one looked like so i did a google search. Sorry i am no expert on food though!!
no problem louise there are arnt they? thats why im happy to own one and would like to show him, if you want i can email you some pics?

Wendy i know the adult comes in a 15 kg bag,not sure about the puppy one,i get the 2kg bag. IMO the protein and fat is too low,for my dogs anyway,in the adult,it also only has around 26% meat...big difference if you ask me! :(
when looking for that arden grange food and i cant find iot anywhere :/ ill have to ring old onwer tomoz find where he gets it but yer none new of it!!
