well - I posted recently saying my cavvie pup (6 months) wasn't eating properly and should I drop his meals to 1 a day.
Well - I just can't get him to eat!!
I dropped the morning meal after it was refused expecting him to be ravenous by tea time - and it just isn't happening!
This happened 7 weeks ago too - he was on Royal Canin from the vets - and refused to eat it - we changed to Burns and he started to eat. We got through 2 x 2kg bags and just bought a 7kg bag - and he's stopped eating it!
Last night - in desperation, I sprinkled some of the Royal Canin in with his burns - and he ate it!!
I don't want to keep doing it though coz I don't want to make him fussy.
When it's meal times he bounces up to me - so excited for food!!! When I put the Burns down - he looks at it - and walks away to his bed!! He's getting NO treats or extras AT ALL.
I've tried microwaving it to releasr some aroma...but he refused that too.
I just don't know how long to let this 'not eating' continue for. He seems really stubborn about it - we are on day 4 of complete refusal now (apart from the meal last night with the Royal Canin in)
I can't keep switching his foods all the time just coz he's fussy......can I????

Have you tried soaking it with hot water and leave it to cool add a little cold water then mix it up to make a kind of gravy.
Yep - have done that too

is he not eating anything what so ever. if he isn't eating anything then i think dogs can easily go 5 days aslong as they drink.
if he is eating a bit and isn't loosing weight i wouldn't worry about it.
have you tried a wet food like natures menu or nature diet. they are both very good.
otherwise just persever and he is not going to starve himself if he is happy and healthy.
also how about getting several flavours of burns in say 2kg packs and just rotating every couple of days so he doesn't get bored. or mix in some good quality wet food just enough to cover the kibble.
if my dog don't eat i look at them and think are they loosing weight if i come to the conclusion that they arn't then i just offer the food as normal.
obviously if they are loosing then its off to the vets.
goodluck - you may just need to be more stubborn than him.

Is he maybe teething? Pups sometimes have a tendency of going off food when they are teething!
It's so frustrating I know, we had something similar with our dog when he was a pup.
We started him on Royal Canin - went off, Then Burns mini bites - went off that too, then Burns venisons and rise - went off, Burns fish -(he hated this one).
We tried puting a drop of water and microwaving it, this worked for a while :-)
Then we added Pedegree pouches to his Burns mini bites - he loved it at first and then went off.
He's now on Nutro complete (lamb&rice) mixed with NaturesDiet and he absolutely loves it. He's never been so excited at meal times and his coat's looking very shiny and soft.
I would however agree with the OP, do keep an eye on his weight and if he losing weight I would take him straight to the vet.
melly you are just training him to be fussy.
It is normal for a dog to like novelty. So you give him a new food and he eats it. Then he decides he's had enough of it and stops eating. If you then give him another food, you are only rewarding him for stopping eating the old one.
If you like, you can keep doing this and go through all the foods in the UK - or you can keep giving him the same thing, morning and evening. No microwaving it, no adding things to it, no spicing it up - all that is just rewarding him for refusing it. Just keep offering him the same bowl of food, morning and evening. Hardly any dogs starve themselves to death. But there are plenty of manmade fussy eaters out there.

I can fully understand the concept and training of fussy eaters - and that in the majority of cases it's manmade. Having had a naturally fussy breed for over 20 years I've lost count of the amounts of times I've picked up half eaten or untouched bowls.
However, if you've got a dog who goes off their food for no other reason that they "don't like it" anymore there's a part of me that thinks "well why feed them a food they don't like all their lives just because I've decided that's what they should have?". The soppy part of me sees that as wrong - the sensible side of me sees the point that you're making. I've agonised for years about this and for the past four years I've chopped and changed food and added yummy bits (breast of lamb - hearts - tripe - etc).
This serves two purposes for me -
a) My dogs now love their food and eat whatever's in the bowl as they don't get bored with it - no more waiting til the dog's out of Junior to get it into the ring because until it started eating properly it wasn't fit for the ring.
b) If anything happened which meant my dogs couldn't be fed their normal diet I know they stand less chance of having an upset stomach due to the change of food.
It's taken me more years than I care to remember to come to this conclusion (sometimes things take a while to sink in to my stoopid head  ) and it wasn't done as a first resort but after years of worrying over dogs with poor appetites. In all cases of my dogs leaving food for the first time it was for no medical reason and never because they were "manmade" fussy eaters - it can't be manmade when they do it the first time can it ;)
I'm in no way suggesting that this is what the OP does but this is what
I have decided is best for my dogs. Just putting another point of view across :)

I have a very faddy dachsie,he's been like it from day 1,everyone I know with the same breed laughs as theirs all eat anything and everything.
We have been through every brand in the book, eventually he would eat Asda 150grm trays no bother for one meal and Pedigree complete for small adults for the other. Around Xmas the former disappearred off the shelves,I contacted Asda and the factory that supplied them had had a serious fire and there would be none of their own brand for the time being. I tried every other brand of trays, pouchesetc and he will eat them sometimes and not others. I have tried lifting the food after 20mins,that doesn't work so now I just leave it till it's finished, sometimes that is just before bedtime. He isn't losing weight,he has no competition except when my Mum's dachsie comes round and then he quickly finishes off his food. I have tried making a big fuss of him when he has finished,he comes and lets me know,I have tried not making a big deal of it. The completes come in such large bags[2-2.5kgs lasts for weeks] I am sure he is either fed up with the same flavour or it has gone stale even though I keep it in a sealed container. I have tried releasing the flavour with hot water,he has never eaten it after it is wet.
He is nearly 2 now ,lively, not over weight,a pain in the bum at times but I wouldn't be without him,so to the OP you are not alone.

Hi, my 7 month old cav pup Harvey went through a very fussy stage and wouldn't touch his dried food - I put this down to teething and changed him over to naturediet..............from that day on we have never looked back, we have a clean dish every meal time and his condition is fantastic. Maybe it's worth a try, good luck.

I have just phoned Burns Dog Foods and they are sending me a selection of their complete foods.
It was a free phone number, the lady at the other end was very pleasant,I told her I'd heard about it on here.
This may help someone else with problem eaters.

Well you are not alone !!! Unfortunately I know I have made my puppy fussy as all the other puppies in his litter eat like good 'uns! (and I bred them) which makes matters possibly worse. I have tried everything and he was brought up on Royal Canin too, (just bought him a small bag of Hills yesterday). I don't have any suggestions but I thought I would let you know you are not alone and I am reading your thread and the replies with great interest!!
A different view on the problem: I was talking to my friend about it (actually I have talked to just about everyone)! and my friend has an eating dissorder and she said that from personal experience that the less you eat your stomach shrinks then the less you want to eat. That bit of information is what keeps me going.
Good Luck xx
Glad to know I'm not alone!!!
They are worse than kids these pups for causing worry!!!!
On a positive side - he ate 50g last night!!
Not sure if to change him onto adult food now he's 6 months??
That's what Burns said to do??
Maybe that will be more 'interesting' to him?

Burns samples arrived on Friday,Rhuari won't even entertain eating it even from my hand.
I will see if I get a better result from other firms samples I am still waiting for.
I've just had some JWB samples....which have gone down a storm!
Mixed some in with the burns and magic!! All gone!
May have to consider feeding a mix!
