Bought something on ebay last week and completed payment on it immediately the auction finished. Postage was meant to be first class.
As I had no communication from the seller, I decided yesterday to drop her an email to confirm that everything had gone through OK and that the package hadn't been lost. Got an email back last night confirming a refund and saying that she had forgotten to put a reserve on and hadn't got enough money for the item, so didn't want to sell it at that price.
Now, obviously this is against ebay's rules, and I'm within my rights to report it. If I hadn't had to chase her, I definitely wouldn't bother. As I had to chase after a week to get any response from her, I might report just to be 'orrid, but I can't decide.
Votes ... yes or no?
M.
Disclaimer - am obviously capable of making my own decisions and not asking a forum to run my life, just thought it would be interesting to see what other ebayers would do.

Thats the spirit Carla

:p

Well, in fairness, she did refund the money immediately on first chase, so that may be a bit strong. Just gouge one eye out perhaps ... ?

Doesn't matter whether or not she refunded the money she is obliged to give you the item that you paid for. Its the rules that if an item sells the seller has to give it to the buyer end of :)

I'd say report them too!.
Just bought a pair of (supposedly new) jeans, said they were 32" leg, arrived after a fortnight and were 27"

I've e-mailed and given her 2 days to get this sorted out, otherwise I'm contacting ebay and giving her neg. feedback. Oh the joys!!

I sold an item and when packaging it up it got damaged (i broke it) and i told the buyer and they came out with allsorts saying i had got a higher offer etc etc when i genuinely broke it, i gave her a refund but she wasnt having it and she complained to ebay and they did nothing.
I'd just chalk it down to experience and save your breath.

Hi
I have just had a really nice incident on ebay and it has restored my faith in people
I brought pair of trousers from someone. Really liked them so went back and brought a identical pair from her ebay shop. They arrived I didnt check them took of the labels and put them away.
Couple of days later went to put them on and they were to small. Had a fit lol been on diet and expected clothes to get looser. When I compared them with the other pair they were miles smaller but the same size on the lable. I emailed the lady and explained she replied applogising and asked me to send them back and she will send out the correct ones. Her mistake. She would also pay my return postage. As i had removed the lables I said not to bother with the payment I would just send them back which I did. The replacements havent turned up so I mailed her this evening asking if the trousers had arrived. She said no they havent and assumed I had changed my mind about sending them. She no longer has the wants I want did I want another colour or a refund. I wanted the original colour. She has refunded my payment in full even though she has not recieved the trousers back. How nice is that. She didnt have to either, I left pos feedback when I got the trousers and she has done the same so its not like she is worried about getting neged.
Some people are just nice and I will certainly be buying from her again
Wendy
Negative feedback and report, thats bang out of order.
You get charged extra to put a reserve on anything you're selling, thats probably why she didn't do it.

Hi
I cant understand why people put a reserve price on something. Blooming annoying when you have bid and it comes up with reserve not met. Especailly when you dont know what the reserve is. Why cant they just put the starting price they want and anything above that is a bonus.
Wendy

I was going to say it was being a bit hard but having thought about it and put myself in your shoes, actually I would have been cross. I'd have been peed off if I had to chase. She should have contacted you straight away grovelling with apologies.

When I put cumbriandoglover in search the name appears too long and it comes up user doesn't exist.

It wont let me vote!!

:(
But Im at the village bonfire with my Pitchfork right behind Carla!!! ROFL :D
Burn em!!!!
Sugar gliders....squirrels??????? the plot really does thicken!!

ooops! its allowed me to vote now!
(no one voted- No you silly mare ROFL :D)

I still can't see the results of this Poll - I press Show Results and it does nothing.

I've just sent her an email pointing out that this is against the rules and she wouldn't have been able to set the reserve anyway. How (or if!) she answers will influence whether I report her or not LOL. At least I'll have a little sport.

I can't see the results either :D :D Great poll :D :D ;)
Daisy

Las year (or poss the year before) Ebay changed the rules so that the minimum resreve price is £50 -you can't have a reserve for less. So at least now you get a bit of an idea of what the reserve is likely to be -i.e. at least 50 quid.
You have to pay more for listing when you put a reserve price down, so she is just trying it on. I think better than reporting her, which may not do much, I would put it on her feedback, than others who bid know what she's capable of. Of course, she can 'hide' her feedback, but who would buy with confidence from someone who did that? And keep all the emails.

but you can put a starting bid on if you need a minimum amount under £50

DId you manage to vote, I have clicked on it a couple times today and it keeps saying upgrade in process ??

Yeah you've got to do Buy It Now or put a Starting Bid on if its less than £50 and you know what price you don't want it to go for less than. It costs more to list it in any way other than a bid starting at 0p I think...
Yep, I'd definitely report them! It was her mistake not putting a reserve price on the auction so she should have honoured the sale and sent the item to you.
The reserve price is what you want to get, but you start with a lower price to encourage people to bid, and it costs more. can't see the point myself, if you know what you want then put that as the starting price, or near to it. You can put any starting price down, it's up to you, under or over £50. I would certainly not be happy with the sellers behaviour, makes you wonder how many they have done that to already, I would def say put either a negative or complaint feedback down, let others know, depending on if its a novice seller or not, if its a genuine mistake well, its up to you, but if the seller has been going a while as a seller, then they are just trying it on in my opinion. was wondering how they would get out of sellers fees with it though, if its registered as a sale they will have to pay a charge for selling, as well as the listing fees. So they will be losing out anyway.

No response to Saturday's email, so have just left feedback - "Paid immed, chased after week, seller refunded, declined to sell, price too low" (fun fitting that into 80 characters!). Will report her later.
Of course, she can now leave me negative feedback too if she chooses, but hopefully that would cover me.
