Hi everyone

I just took my 12 week old sbt to the local park where we take her about 3 times a day...

There was a guy there with his boxer who was off the lead so I kept out of his way as my dog is very little atm...  We had stopped to say hello to a couple and their little girl when he came over with his dog on the lead to let him say hello which I thought was great and then he started eyeing my dog up and asking how much I paid for him etc...  I got a bit spooked by this and said goodbye but noticed as I was walking down the park towards home that he kept watching me and my dog...

Am I being over cautious it's just I have heard alot about people stealing sbt especially puppies and don't really fancy going out without OH again to that park anyway..

Is that a normal question someone would ask?

I have Malamutes and people are forever asking how much they cost  I never tell them though :D

sometimes people are just nosey and like to ask those things (price checking) and don't mean any harm.  I normally give the answer "laverage for the breed" for me setters.  they don't ask again

I just said the other half paid as a present so I didn't know....  First thing that came into my head lol

I've been asked that question several times. Mostly folks are just curious, especially if they haven't bought a dog in awhile. It's like house prices, their amazed at how much you pay now. I think you need to follow your intincts - if the guy gives off creepy vibes then don't let him follow you home or into places you feel unsafe.

I often get asked how much the Bedlingtons cost, my usual answer (to a stranger) is "about the same as any other pedigree pup from a responsible breeder" ;) ;)

I'd never dream of asking this myself, even when I bought my first Beddie the price was the last question, just before we paid.

You are right to be cautious. People often ask me that question about my afghans....I sually answer with a lie...I tell them that both have serious breed faults and would have no market value or breeding value.

maybe he was just admiring your pup as you walked away ...I have done this myself looked back.

I always tell people I am wary of that my girls are crossbreeds  ;) which I suppose I can get away with as no-one knows what breed they are anyway!

Remember to have your mobile with you when your out alone and stay in parts of the park that are busy usually by the childrens area or cafe.

do some road walking which is good for a young pup getting used to traffic and people etc as they dont need much exercise at his age.

Thanks everyone...  didn't know if I was just being over cautious but I think I did the right thing by coming home...  it's the first person we have met out that I felt unsure about...

Don't know about not needing much exercise as it's hard to get this one to stop lol wouldn't have him any other way though (don't know how to get the big grin icon lol)

all puppies dont know when to stop :)

the reccommended exercise for a pup is 5mins per month so as your pup is 12wks 15 mins a day.

If someone asks you how much your puppy was, just say "I'm a friend of the breeder and they gave it to me" or just say "He was a present".  I know what you mean, it makes you feel really uncomfortable when people ask.  :)
