We have changed our eating habits on chicken over the last few months (not due to Bird Flu ) but due to taste :)

We used to get the bog standard chooks but thought after while we thought they were so tasteless :rolleyes:

So we now try and get free range or cornfed and what a difference  It is so much better

We haven't tried organic but do have organic free range eggs as the flavour is so much better :)

Just wondering what people thought ? :) They are so much more expensive but luckily that is not an issue for us :)

Edited to say and so much less fat than those lardy poor chickens that are couped up and can't run around

I prefer to buy chicken from our Farmers' Market (twice a month - at Barleylands for any Essex peeps out there ;) ).   However, I do also buy organic from Asda ....when it is reduced :D :D :D

Asda is also selling locally produced bacon, sausages & ham at the moment ....its a pity it's not giving this produce a higher profile tho!

That too is well-worth a try.  The local bacon (which I can't get at the local FM for some reason) is scrumptious!!

We try and shop for meat at our local farm shop when we can :) Their rib roasts are to die for

We don't do Asda unless I need a trip to George :D I am not convinced on their quality :) The fruit and veg is ok but the meat I have had some bad experiences with :(

For the last year or so I have bought all my meat from our local farm, who rear, slaughter and sell on their own premises.  You cannot top the quality/taste.

I was put off supermarket meat after watching a very nasty dispatches programme.  Haven't touched them since :(

We always get our eggs from training classes - organic, free range :) Huge eggs - the dogs love them :D We don't buy a lot of chicken - but often get organic (particularly if it's cheap :D - a touch of the Scot here :D ) Had some beautiful local sausages from Norfolk on Monday - I'm looking forward to getting a lot of local produce when we move, as there isn't a lot round here except the horrifically expensive :)

We don't eat a lot of meat (I can take or leave it) but most of what we do buy comes from a farm butcher where they rear their own animals. My family having been going there for 40+ years and I haven't managed to find aywhere better so i still go there even though I've moved way and it's over an hour's drive to it now. I get most off the dogs' meat there too. We try to buy free range or organic chicken when it's cheap and most of the fruit and veg we buy is organic. Eggs also come from a small farm (more of a smallholding really) where the chickens are so free range that you have to watch you don't run over them as you drive into the yard :D

I too was put off when i watched that dispatches program. I went round my local supermarkets afterwards and was shocked at the quality and knowing how those poor birds got the marks on the legs - even the expensive ones   Now i buy all my meat from my local butcher and the quality is excellent and all free range. I was amazed that most things were infact cheaper than the supermarkets as i'm not buying added fat. Infact im such a regular he knows what i want before i even open my mouth lol :D hes even got me having local honey after spotting it on the shelf i always wondered where to buy it now i know.

Although not a lover of the idea of chicken, if I do buy, I make sure it's organic.  We have the use of two chickens from nextdoor while their owners live away - we are responsible for feeding, cleaning and eating the eggs.  I could never go back to buying battery eggs.

However, I am concerned about what we will need to do with the chooks if bird flu comes near.

Personally I'd prefer to eat a half portion of expensive organic meat and veg rather than a full portion of supermarket stuff.  Sunrise Organics, www. sunriseorganics.co.uk will delivery organic fruit, veg and meat to your door.  You could also investigate Organicbutchers.net.  Ashlyns Farm near Ongar has a good shop, www.ashlyns.co.uk.

We have started getting all our meat from the local butchers(free range) rather than the supermarket and the difference is amazing, my children cant believe how much better food tastes, all this time they thought it was just my cooking:rolleyes:. I get all my veg organic from the supermarket by am thinking of finding a farm shop but not really sure where to find one any ideas?
