Had busy day at work OH had to work yesterday aswell. So few of us decide to go out for a bite to eat afterwards.

Seven of us in group & three cars.  Two park on one street & one on other.

Only in restaurant two - two and half hours and was finished for 930ish.

Go back to our cars and OH been broke into and they have pinched radio. Then we find out that they have broke into the car parked on next street.

Two cars out of a party of three.

Coppers are all over this town centre at weekend nights but do they bother to send any of them NO.

Other car only broke in about month ago so thier really p...ed off.

We have rang insurers. Do you reckon it's best to claim on insurance or will it drastically increase it next year. OH doesnt fancy forking £500 out for window & radio but doesnt want a large increase to insurance next year.

Does car crime not matter to coppers because thats what we all feel like now.

I think some windows are covered as a separate item and you only have to pay an excess and it dosen't affect the NCD.  Check your policy and also talk to the insurance company.

Don't you have an obligation to report any incident to your insurers, whether you claim or not?   You are right about the windows though, they have seperate cover.

That is awful 2 out of 3 cars! I had a similar thing happen 2 years ago now but car was on my driveway. The thugs rammed a screwdriver through metalwork, tried to take cd/radio but broke it in the process so left it. Would have cost about £400...claimed on my insurance and policy increased by about £70 and lost 2yrs no claims. Not too bad considering I was only 21 at the time.

I would speak to the insurance company personally

We have decided we are not going to claim on insurance for radio because the excess is £100 and although when OH bought it it was £300ish two years ago the price must have dropped since then because the cheapest we have found now is £175.  So although no claims is protected not worth the hassle.

Spoke to coppers since & they have told us and other people we could get cars checked for fingerprints but they very busy on Sundays so wouldn't be able to do anything today & it may be a few days before they could.

It's terrible isn't it Munstersue.

When my car was broken into and my radio nicked the police weren't exactly stunning - I rang them and they said someone would come and see me within 24 hours; not a soul.  As it turned out, two policemen did come round at half one in the morning - about half hour after the call - but not because of it, they'd been trying to catch the thief after several other break-ins and had seen my car.

They arrested someone and he was let go on lack of evidence.

I would get yourselves down to a breaker's yard - my new window cost £20, no need for insurance.  Make sure you check the tint on your windows though - I now have 5 lilac tinted and one green tinted window!  My new stereo I got from my brother, but decent stereos aren't that expensive these days.

If you are fully comp then you can get the window done for just the price of the excess on the windscreen cover (normally about £50) and this does not affect your no claims. As for the radio many people are selling them on Ebay as they replace theirs for the latest gadgets etc.... i sold my old set up for £50 which included a 10disc auto changer when i upgraded to a mp3 player a few months back,  loads of bargins to be had.
