Hi
Earlier today my dog (staffordshire bull terrier) was playing in the garden tearing up all sorts mayhem
Upon coming in to the cool house he was panting and licking his nose and mouth something which he dont normally do.
Looking outside I've seen quite a few maybe 6-7 Bee's flying about, now im thinking maybe Jedi (my dog) has started yapping at one and got stung
Ive done a few searches and found loads of threads on this. My questions regarding Piriton
How much shall I give him? (tablet form). Is there a specific dog piriton because I have just gone to the local chemist and picked some up. Is the human piriton fine for the dogs?
Are there any reactions i should be worried about apart from the drowsiness the box said it may cause?
Just worried sick at the moment, read a few posts where peoples pets have died from bee stings
As for Jedis appearance I cant see any swelling no problems breathing
I really appreciate everyone looking at this and any type of reply
thanks in advance
rog
One of my dogs died 3 years ago after a bee sting so yes you need to be extremely cautious. I would get in touch with your vet.
Edited to say drinking a lot of water is one sign.

Was there any reactions as in you could see some immediate effects to the sting
Looking at jedi now he seems fine just like normal energetic playing around
Do you think I should get in touch anyway rather safe than sorry?
Yes, it's only a phone call/ short consultation and could save his life. You'll never forgive yourself if you 'see how he goes on' and he dies :-(
Yes it was pretty quick, but I always feel the "better to be safe than sorry option the best" !!

Well I gave my vet a ring and all i can say is Im changing my vets. The service is absolutely horrendous, Dont really care of your dogs well being. I think there more interested in how much money they can make rather than helping. Basically asked the questions I asked everyone here and they pretty much said we dont consult over the phone bye bye.
Anyone from coventry that can reccomend a decent vet because I've had enough with this pet clinic.
If I go, there just going to give a form of piriton, is the human kind safe as I can just give this at home

My Vet recommended human piriton, 2 tablets for 25kg dog.

When I was showing at Darlington one year there was an awful lot of wasps around. My bitch (Golden Retriever) got stung just inside her flews. The showground Vet gave me Piriton and told me one then another one after 3-4 hours and he gave me about four in total.

my sisters bitch was stung by a bee about 2 years ago the reaction was instant, her head swelled up and her eyes were almost popping out it was awful the vet gave her a dose of steriods and the swelling went down over the next few hours.

THe homoeopathic remedy Apis Mel is an excellent thing to carry in case of bee stings.

Its interesting to hear what 'remedies' people recommend for a bee sting with no/little reaction.
Our 10 month old girl saw her first bee of the season today and was watching it fly about with fascination for a couple of mins. When it landed on a new sprouting plant she was straight over to it with her nose right on top of it. I had to go over and rescue the poor little bee - it flew off rather unimpressed
